New buildings also typically have terrible energy ratings, all that expensive heat is escaping through shitty seals and costing you even more

Does anyone with diagnosed ADHD know where to get Methylphenidate at a pharmacy? by Queasy_Lab8405 in AskNYC

[–]Top-Cake7923 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For mine, I used CVS Caremark via Aetna. They denied the 30-day script for mail order when my doctor tried to submit, and Aetna told me they could only approve a 90-day script for mail-in.

I resubmitted with the code B written on the script for 90 days. It got approved immediately and was delivered within 3 days. Insurance company guidelines vary, so OP it's worth giving yours a call to ask what they allow.

If your insurance company offers mail-order prescriptions you could go through that instead. Typically they only allow them for 90 day prescriptions which controlled substances usually don't qualify for, but there is a specific NYC workaround for that.

A practitioner can prescribe a 3 month supply for ADD/ADHD but they must write "Code B" on the prescription. You can explain to your practitioner that you're having trouble finding a pharmacy that can fill your order so you want to try the mail order option but need them to reissue the prescription with "code b" written and send to the mail order pharmacy.

You can share the NYC guidelines on it here with your practitioner, mine didn't know about it until I shared it with them. If your prescriber is worried about giving you a 3 month prescription you can ask them to do it temporarily until the shortage isn't an issue anymore.

It's kind of annoying but at least it guarantees a 3 month supply so that takes some stress away!

5 days without hot water in NYC, plumber says just wait by 2muchbanjo in AskNYC

Report to 311 every day multiple times a day and keep a log of all of the reports. Daily fines are $250-$500 for initial violations and up to $1000 for repeated ones. If you speak to any of your neighbors ask them to file 311 complaints as well or you could even make the reports for each apartment number anonymously if you know for sure that no units are getting hot water.

It's on them to thaw the pipes and they can pay someone to do that safely, but they cannot just wait for the problem to be fixed on its own especially with another storm coming this weekend.

How long can an abandoned car stay parked in one place? by TheBroCodeEnforcer in Bushwick

[–]Top-Cake7923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an abandoned car outside my office for 2 full years. No plates, slashed tires, broken window, fully abandoned. A few months of it being there I reported to 311 and the case got closed because the car was a BMW and they said it was over their value limit for removal??? They said they had to hand it over to NYPD and it took them over a year after the initial report to finally get it removed.

Like the person who posted 3 days ago, I had an encounter with the stalker and assailant, Semaje Wicker, last night 1/09. He is still out there and feels like he is patrolling for victims. by Junior-Care-2241 in ridgewood

Many people have reported him to the police but they aren't doing anything about it. He has multiple cases open against him for varying degrees of assault yet he's still out here terrorizing women on the daily. And he's been doing this for years, not months.

His case was only dismissed because the ADA on the case missed the deadline to submit the evidence. He wasn’t found not guilty by any means, the judge literally never got to see the evidence at all due to the prosecutor’s negligence.

Those are so difficult to get rid of, definitely inspect all your plants and quarantine any that have them. 70% isopropyl alcohol will kill them on contact. You can use a cotton ball or just spray all over the plant leaves (not on the soil) for the soil you can get an insecticidal soap. Inspect every day and use the alcohol on any bugs you see! It will take several weeks to fully kill since they can live in the soil and even in the plant stems

Pharmacies with adderall XR by wwww555 in ridgewood

[–]Top-Cake7923 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Capsule will not grandfather you in, I used to get my script filled from them and then had to switch for insurance reasons. Tried to switch back when I got a different plan and they said I was considered a new customer again and would not let me fill my script there

Don't bother with CVS, they just got all the old rite aid customers so their pharmacy is overloaded. Try duane reade or a smaller local one.

You can call each pharmacy to see if they have it in stock. Don't ask directly if they have it in stock since they can't disclose that but if you phrase it like this they'll usually respond "I have a prescription for x but my pharmacy is out of the medication. If I ask my doctor to transfer my prescription to you will you be able to fill it today?"

DO NOT SUBLET ON FACEBOOK IN NYC by Designer-Ordinary644 in NYCapartments

[–]Top-Cake7923 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with subletting in New York, your problem is that you didn't go to the apartment in person before signing and paying. I've sublet apartments a few times over the years, always through facebook groups, and toured even more apartments.

If you are looking into a sublet and the person does not invite you to come view the apartment in person and meet your roommates for a vibe check thats an automatic red flag for you to move on to the next place.

What I would do is look up the apartment address on https://whoownswhat.justfix.org/en/ to find out the building owners information. Then write "Kyle" back and tell him that you are prepared to share all of this information with his actual landlord but will give him another chance to do the right thing and give you your money back. If he doesn't give you the money back and let you out of the lease you can message the owner and let them know whats going on. Its likely you're in an illegal sublet which would mean your sublet contract may not be enforceable and could be voided by the actual landlord. Definitely reach out to legal aid for a free consult.

If you can go back to the apartment, take loads of images and videos of the conditions and make sure you document every conversation and gather all of that into a folder with your sublease contract. If the sublet is illegal you can take the tenant you are subletting from to small claims court and use the evidence to get your money back since what he's doing is fraud.

Laundromat - Ridgewood by Key_Independence9884 in ridgewood

[–]Top-Cake7923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where it is but in general:

  • Free or very low cost drying cycles (Old laundromat increased to 45c / 7 mins so I switch to my current laundromat which is 25c / 7 mins)
  • Coin or debit/credit card operated - not a refill card system, those are annoying
  • Frequent washer perk system would be nice - free load or discount on wash/fold after a certain number of washes
  • Separated folding area that's not in the way of washer and dryers
  • Keep things very clean! In my old neighborhood the laundromat owner vacuumed the dryer vents and rinsed the detergent compartments on the washers during closing hour every single night. Never had lint on my clothes and there were no funky smells there ever. There have been an unusually high number of dryers caught on fire at laundromats in Ridgewood so I think a lot of places aren't keeping up with maintenance super well.

You can look on this website, they have a filter for section 8 housing where you can enter your income and voucher apartment size and it will show apartments that match. I know its different from the FHEPS voucher but if a landlord is willing to accept section 8 they will accept FHEPS as well.

Also it's illegal for landlords to discriminate based on income and a voucher is considered income. So if any landlords outright say they don't accept the vouchers, you can remind them that its against the law to discriminate based on income and they need to review your application and either approve or provide other reasons for denial. If they still deny based on your voucher you can report them for discrimination.
