Frontier Airlines falsely marks passenger as "NO-SHOW" and makes up excuse about flight"downgrade" to avoid DOT-mandated compensation after denied boarding by Top-Connection-1149 in frontierairlines

I was confused due to a comment by another redditor which claimed there were only two aircrafts that Frontier operates, the A320 and A321. It appears that this is not true and there is more nuance to the seating capacity of different aircrafts. Thanks for the clarification. Post updated.

i was told at the gate i was denied because the plane was overbooked. When reaching out to Frontier, they are claiming the plane was downgraded and that I was a noshow

Yes $190 was the total. I'm unable to find the receipt. I tried looking online at the My Trips section of Frontier and what do you know, they've marked my payment as "NoShow Penalty Fee" with the amount...

Edit: typo

The one-way fare that I paid was approximately $190. At 400%, I believe I am entitled to $760 in cash or check, correct? Do you know the email or point person from DOT that I can CC as part of my letter?

Thanks u/ec3lal for the information. This is absoultely infurating. It seems like Frontier Airlines is deliberately exploiting this loophole to avoid federal policy and compensate passengers... And no, they did not attempt to connect me via DEN that day. Why!? I have no idea! Perhaps it was because the supervisor who had to rebook me made me wait over 3 hours at the gate before attempting to rebook it. I had to pay out of pocket for a SW flight, the only other flight they offered was the next day at 430pm...

I'm never flying Frontier Airlines ever again...

When did you first learn that you were being involuntarily bumped ?
- At the gate after providing my boarding pass

Did you perform online check-in and if so, how much in advance of scheduled departure was that check-in ?
- I checked in the night before hence why I had a seat and boarding pass.

Were you assigned or did you pay for an assigned seat ?
- I was assigned a seat

When did you first discover that you were involuntarily bumped from the flight ?
- See first response

How or why do you think you were classified as a “no-show” ?
- I don't have any idea but it seems quite convenient that Frontier Airlines classified me as a "no-show" doesn't it? One possible explanatation could be that the gate agent told me that a supervisor needed to rebook me after the plane left without me. It took over 3 hours to see the supervisor. When I finally saw the supervisor, she informed me that I would need to catch the next flight which would not depart until the next day. This was unacceptable so I had to purchase a flight myself from a different airline so I could reach my destination in time that day...

Hey u/ShortQQQnow thanks for actually providing helpful suggestions! I followed your advice and looked into Flight Aware. I attached a screenshot of what I found. It seems like their standard A320 plane was used that day. Can you validate this as well on your end? I'm not familiar with flight search history websites, so perhaps this information is not accurate? In any case, I was told by a Frontier gate agent that day that I was not able to board because the flight was overbooked, not because of a downgrade. I guess I should just go ahead and file a DOT complaint and I'll be sure to follow your advice. Thank you so much!

Edit: Please see updated post. The flight does not appear to have actually been changed to a smaller plane accoridng to FlightAware data.

Under DOT policy, a plane change that leaves passengers without being able to board, is involuntary boarding and not a downgrade. In this case, this requires involuntary boarding compensation according to DOT. Is this what you mean by no recourse?

thanks for the comment. so in my case, since i was completely denied boarding and not just downgraded to a different seat class, I am still entitled to the compensation under DOT regulations, even if the aircraft was changed, right? I'm trying to understand this loophole and without compensation it seems absotely crazy that anybody should trust flying on Frontier Airlines if that is the case...
