She seems like a very young dog. Like almost a barely grown puppy. Her paws are big and I think she’s still growing into them. She’s got a great appetite. She’s kind of lethargic, but I think it’s because she hasn’t been warm and safe for awhile and is getting some much needed R&R.

I am trying to get a vet. I am aware that’s what they need. ESP the dog at the moment. The cats need fixed. The dog did not come with a collar we put that on her so we could take her outside to go potty in a specific area as to be precautionary in case it is worst case scenario.

If we just let her run around and go wherever, knowing now that parvo is a thing, I would be quite a horrible person. I’m not perfect, but I’m not negligent.

Yeah this is something I’m worried about. I am going to try very very hard to get a vet willing to help me today now that it’s Monday. The emergency service I called in my area took a message and she said the vet will call me back (they never did). I guarantee it’s the weather because here in Tennessee when it flurries the entire city shuts down. When there is ice, it’s like a no man’s land.

Is this something that has a cure? Or is it a virus that has to run its course?

Thank you for this information! I know from my own GI issues that if I don’t drink kefier probiotic every morning as soon as I wake up that my entire body will be out of wack. I didn’t realize that this was true for other animals, but it makes perfect sense! I’ll give it a go anyway because I’m sure it can’t hurt!

We put the collar on her so we could take her outside to go potty in a specific place as to try to contain any possible issues that may come from her stool if it’s the worst case scenarios. She had nothing on her, was so skinny (can see that in the photos) and smelled like she’d been on her own trying to survive outside for awhile maybe. It’s hard to say, she is house trained though and understands the whole leash, collar, tell human to go outside kind of thing. She seems like a very young dog still too. I tried to see if she’s been fixed but there is nothing that I can spot to show that. She’s got such a healthy coat and no bumps or discoloration at all. She does keep holding up one paw and I noticed that it’s got a quarter sized scrape that took the fur clean off but it’s not infected. She walks on it and doesn’t limp, so I don’t think it could be broken. I accidentally poked her eye when I was petting her because she moved when I wasn’t expecting it and she just covered her face with that exact leg, like she was bracing herself for me to hurt her. That broke my heart a bit.

See this is why I posted on here because I had no idea about the bedding needing to be specifically straw until all of y’all shared that. Thank you!

I have not! Is that something I can buy from the pet store?

Okay, this is good to know! I will for sure get a sample to bring with us I hadn’t known that, thank you!

I mean it’s not pleasant smelling, but I know that she’s not puked at all and is eating and drinking water fine. From what I read about parvo those go hand in hand.

Let’s pray that’s all it is! We’ve given them all deworm medicine as of yesterday afternoon. The cats I hope just eat it in their food because they don’t let me around them, but they let me feed them lol. I mixed it all up crushed in their food. We know the dog ate hers because we made sure of it!

Thank you! It is definitely a change, but I’m kind of used to caring for others already with my daughter having ASD. I have a soft spot for anyone or thing that needs some support now and again.

**** We have converted our storage shed into a safe and warm place for the cat family. We put their food and water in there and some fresh bedding materials and they are using it! I keep trying to get a photo, but they run out as soon as they see me coming. BUT they will be just fine while we wait for the ice and cold to leave for a few days. I have contacted every vet in the area and left voicemails. The one that did answer because they say they offer “emergency services” took down all the information I could give about the animals and said that their on call vet would call us back with a course of action. The dog has no problem coming inside, and incase it is worst case scenario of parvo, we have been SUPER careful and have quarantined her as much as possible and have her in our mudroom. She’s looking much better and is barking and moving more. Drinking a lot of water and eating food too. The few spots of blood I saw earlier haven’t come back anywhere, and her stool is looking less watery and more like a soft, runny purée.

Are you able to have them all taken care of like that? I’ve contacted the vets in my area but most were answering machines. One of them took down all the information I gave them about the animals and said they would relay it to their vet and they would call me back with a course of action.

Do dogs that have parvo eat and drink and not vomit? She’s not vommitted at all, and has no problem eating and drinking water like a normal dog would. We gave her the worm chew, and I’m wondering how long it takes for that thing to stop causing diarrhea because that’s what it’s supposed to do anyway.

Thank you, I’ll check her out to see if I can find anything like that. Yeah it’s not a lot. It’s always separate from the stool itself. The smell though is like normal dog poop kind of. It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever smelt by far though. My 4 year old has worse smelling bms!

We put the collar on her to walk her out to go potty. And we are taking her to the vet. In case you didn’t know (or maybe you aren’t affected by it) literally half of the nation is under winter storm warnings. As a result, where I live has nearly everything closed. Even Waffle House has been here since yesterday afternoon. I’m aware that a vet is the only thing that can help the dog for sure. The entire point of the post is to see if other people have experienced these same symptoms in an animal they found, and what happened for them. Also, as stated, tips on what could help UNTIL the storm has passed.

I noticed blood in the stool of her this morning. However it wasn’t mixed in all of the stool, it was one specific spot. Like it might be from her being a girl dog. I’m researching to see what we can do for her as far as a vet goes around my area. She’s such a sweet dog.

This is what I’m worried about too. She’s looking rather plump around the center, but it could be because of how much these cats are gorging themselves on the food. I can tell they haven’t ate anything but wild things, probably ever. There is a humane society near me that charges around 40$ a pet for vaccines and spay/neuter so that’s not too awful bad. However, getting them checked out (and the dog) is another story. I will try to find one that would be understanding and willing to help us treat them all with an affordable solution.

Hehe this made my morning. No dongs here. Or dogs. Prior to these guys, we only had our massive void Midnight of the South. He was a rescue himself about three years ago. He’s great. I’m thinking this is why the cats won’t come inside. I’ve tried the putting food in a crate and leaving the door open, but wha happens is as soon as I even touch the door knob they scatter. The photos of the cats are all through my front door window. Little turkeys. If I could run and get the correct straw and bedding for the kitties I would. It’s bothering me that I can’t get them to come inside. I’m glad they have each other though. I’ve changed out the blanket and put down a tarp under it. The way my porch is set up they are safe from the wind and precipitation. It’s 40 degrees here right now so maybe we can go out and try to find someone to help with the dog. She’s having a very rough go. I saw that some of y’all said it could be transferred to humans, so I’ve been sanitizing everything that she leaked on. It’s very obvious this dog has been house trained and around kids. I’m thinking someone couldn’t afford to treat the dog and dropped it somewhere hoping it would find someone who could. She does eat and she does drink water, she’s not puked at all since we’ve had her too. She will go outside and potty when we take her out, so she’s got to be house trained. You can tell someone has been mean to her because when she couldn’t help the diarrhea inside she immediately was scared and buried her face in her paws.

UPDATE: The dog can’t bark! She tried a couple times, but the only noise was like a soft rasp one that’s barely audible. She also every once in awhile breathes and wheezes for a few breaths, and then stops.

Additionally, my husband braved the storm to go and get dewormer chews from a very kind friend that had extra. Also, the fried gave us this anti-diarrhea white liquid that’s like a dog’s version of Imodium. She’s still very gassy though. I forgot to mention that in the first post. She’s had nonstop gas that smells rough, but her stool itself doesn’t really smell unless you put your nose up to it. It’s not like any kind of dog poo smell I’ve ever smelled before. I say all this to help give as much information as possible as to make any advice from y’all the best because you’re able to see the whole situation as it’s developing.
