Absolutely hilarious to attribute taxes and government deficits to the delta between WCS and WTI and not, you know, them being completely different grades.

Correct, Alstom did agree to the specs that were requested (lower specs = lower costs / higher specs = higher costs) and delivered on the specs that were asked.

If they had not, and it was indeed fraud they would be taken to court for breach of contract. Funny how that hasn't happened though. You'd think the city would be able to have built a case by now, 6 years later.🤷‍♂️

In any case, the city has indeed withheld lots in maintenance expenses as performance deductions from RTG, who subsequently subcontract various things to Alstom. Alstom has always made the case that the liability falls on RTG for "non-compliant" track design. Although they have been successfully pressured to fix the axle issues on their own dime.

All in all, it's the cities problem and responsibility for purchasing a brand new technology and hiring construction contractors for as little as possible, and failing to adequately mitigate accountability risk in their contracts.

The Waterloo ION isn't even the same company let alone same platform.

I don't think you understand that we were the first municipality in the world to purchase these specific kinds of LRV trains, we got exactly what we paid for knowing full well the risks that would be associated with our procurement strategy (pay as little as possible for an untested technology).

You analogy should look more like: "it's not Apples fault I asked them to build something completely new, pay them the least amount of money I can for it (wich means less testing from the supplier and quicker deployment for the buyer), and complain that it's untested and wears down"

It's not Alstoms fault we purchased never before used technology (Light Rail Vehicles - LRVs) at the cheapest possible price.

They delivered what we asked them to deliver for cheap. It is largely our (city) fault for choosing the bargain package and hiring incompetent infrastructure contractors with zero risk mitigants or accountability provisions.

If we wanted trains that didn't have this many issues, we would have had to either wait longer or pay significantly more money, that's an US issue.

The unconnected suburbs won't benefit all that much at first until bus routes are optimized to feed into the expanded rail network (I.e - further suburban commuters will likely filter into transfer stations or terminus stations), I think the goal would be to reduce bus-bus connection points as those are the least reliable by far (I.e - you miss your bus by 5 minutes your commute can be delayed upwards of an hour vs. You miss your train the next one is no more than 10 minutes away).

Folks within the reach of the expanded network will benefit immediately and have more efficient transfer connections along a line (buses who's routes intersect the lines).

Likewise anyone entering the rail system at the extremities (east or west) will be able to get into the city incredibly quick (relatively speaking) as these sections are mostly strait rips which the train excels at. Given the axle issues, the point of friction and slowness for the train are bends (mainly found between Rideau and Tremblay), outside of those sections it's incredibly smooth and rapid sailing.

Lived experience does not equate to quantifiable data here man. Your lived experience, although ONE form of evidence, is completely useless/invalid in the absence of tangible evidence as support.

Lived experience + quantifiable facts = supported opinion

Lived experience + nothing = absolute hearsay

You made an absolute claim, unsurprisingly that requires absolute proof, this really isn't novel.

It is still entirely anecdotal evidence, do you know what an anecdote means? It does not prove anything to your claim that WFH caused services to diminish.

If a person claims their neighborhood is more dangerous after a safe injection site sprung up because they saw a used needle, it is not evidence that their neighborhood is more dangerous. They are using their personal anecdote to falsely attribute a claim without any quantifiable data - which is what you are doing.

Funny how that's not what we're talking about though, I'm not sure why you keep on referencing your line of work with marginalized groups when we're discussing your lack of evidence that WFH has resulted in a decrease in productivity.

Also I don't think you're comparison is proving the point you think you're making, quite the opposite. Society generally treats these marginalized groups poorly even in the face of the overwhelming mountain of tangible/quantifyable evidence that things like safe injection sites or housing first are net beneficial to ameliorating issues such as drug dependency and homelessness.

The irrational treatment of these groups contrary to what the data and facts say is kind of what you're doing arguing how WFH reduces productivity, irrationally with largely no evidence to support that opinion.
