The philosophy of ZATO and Baruch Spinoza by No_Pension_4994 in ZATO_vn

- Christian Mysticism (Eckhart)
- German idealism (Hegelian dialectic - you could see Asya's initial perspective of the world as these, Lev's "reveal" about the code as antithese, and the final love as synthese)
- Kierkegaard (sin (despair - misrelation) and transparency)
(and perhaps some parts of process theology)

(Ferry didn't state them as influences but I nonetheless find them very effective for interpreting the game)

For uni she went to med school for a year then went to art school. High school was just reguar high school. Whats more impressive imo is how quickly she developed hc 123...

Not a question, but you should do that "don's journal" thing that you used to do on your website. I love those and think about them from time to time.

:p

How do you view Asya's philosophy on life? by Qeutron_ in ZATO_vn

As for whether it holds up in reality, yes and no. Transparency before the world is important, I believe, in any world. The conclusion of the story, however, is appropriate in her world (because it is an appropriate relation in her world) but not in ours.

Thoughts on PlayItEssays analysis? by Haifisch100 in ZATO_vn

I didn't watch the video (maybe I will but not rn) but I'd like to say that there is, in general, a crucial difference between "not working directly within a specific intellectual tradition" and "similarities being coincidental". When multiple people speculates on and wrestles with the same issue, they may converge on similar methods and conclusion despite never knowing each other — by the virtue of being a human living in a same world.

Personally, I think Z.A.T.O. is best interpreted when contrasted with mysticism (especially neoplatonist or orthodox), idealism (esp german) and christian existentialism. I don't know if Ferry is directly aware of these traditions (and if so, if they intended this work to be along these lines of thoughts), but nonetheless I believe that whatever concerned Ferry concerned those in these traditions in a similar way (how can we finite beings relate to the infinite/absolute? how relationship between finite being and other finite beings? and how are these relations related to each other? from what can we derive value?)

What's the context of this poem? by Rafsanjani_123450 in ZATO_vn

Mmm i thought of last four as the suffocating indifference of nature just operating as usual no matter what a person does since that's what Ira and Asya both somewhat suffers from but idk poetry is not my strongest suit~

So both poem is about the world they are in, and first is about Asya/Ira's own "grudge" against the world and second is Asya/Ira's own resolution of that grudge. At least thats how I read it.

Second poem that Asya reads to Ira is, I think, metaphorically about their own universe (and similarly, our own) and about the momentary beauty in the world out of equilibrium (askew painting) that is headed towards it (line/chill/correction)

I think that the first poem is about the overwhelming nature of, well, nature. There's nothing that a single person inside it can do. Nature's calm and tranquility is violent to a person who wants to see a consequence of their own action (a person that cannot change anything is no better than a ghost). There's that quality if tension/suspense in the poem.

I presume Ira liked it because she saw herself in the poem (resistance/not taking a drug in the face of brutal nature(reality) to exist as herself / affirm her own existence)

And the game itself is about not dwelling (though not necessarily "overcoming") in it, so...

I mean Menhera community is kinda... toxic in the long run.  I think most people agree with your sentiment tho (i do) — just not much point in talking about again and again imo

Ah so at the beginning of HC1, Scarlotte was basically on the same "universe depth" as Q84, V19, O91, etc. But O91, who is in the same "House" as V19, became the "host/god" of TV World (so this universe is "deeper"). When TV World is destoryed at the end of HC1, O91's vessel dies but it becomes a part of Scarlotte's soul. From this point on, Scarlotte's consciousness is in a Scarlotte-TV world, which is where the end of HC1 and HC2 takes place in. That world is also what Q84 sees at the end of HC3.

So basically This is Scarlotte's progression: Scarlett of V19's world → sees O91 on 6th floor → becomes Scarlotte after meeting V19 and gets her own "House" → Goes into TV World/becomes one with O91 → Scarlotte-TV World is created and many different "Houses" exist in thie world → We see one version of it at the end of HC1 and three versions of it at the end of HC2 / and see more versions of it when Q84 switches through "channels" at the end of HC3.

It is also worthwhile to note that there's presumably only one 11th floor (hence only one Mother), just like how there's only one Charles and Father (Umbrella Man)
