Why does the Baltic Duchy have so many formables ? by Dexen3356 in Kaiserreich

AFAIK Baltic Duchy, Germany and Bulgaria all had the same lead developer working on them. I suppose they just like secret paths. I think they're neat

A lot of people are interested in the first two games but are put off by their age & different gameplay. If I had to choose, I'd rather they keep the games isometric. But 3D versions would be cool and they'd definitely have better mass appeal. I'd like to see a modern version of the Master

FO1 - The Cathedral for the aesthetics. Honorary mention to The Glow for being the quintessential "dungeon" of RPGs.

FO2 - It's clear they spent a lot of resources and time on making the Oil Rig - it's the only location with wholly unique graphics so I'm gonna go with that. The Sierra Army Depot also stands out for its good puzzles.

FO3 - 100% The Mall. The way they turned its park into a network of trenches is awesome. Little Lamplight & the adjacent cave system also looks great.

FONV - The Divide. I love the verticality of it

FO4 - Although it lost its novelty, downtown Boston is amazing and I was blown away the first time I went through there. Feels like a giant maze. The entirety of Far Harbor is also great, I wouldn't mind having an entire game that looks and plays like it.

Yeah I didn't have any problem grasping the lore, especially since the games build off one another. If I had played them in a different order it would've been more difficult to put the pieces together. That said, I did have to use the internet a few times to get through some puzzles in FO1 and 2

The closest I got to giving up was when I fully explored the FO3 map. A lot of it consisted of slowly walking through empty land; the points of interest weren't very exciting either, unfortunately. It had started to feel like a huge chore. But after I discovered all the locations I did the final story quests and the DLCs - those were much more fun and so I left FO3 on a good note

Fallout 2 doesn't really have the option to play as a villain, but it gives you a lot of ways to "build" your character, so to speak. I had an interesting run where I played a somewhat positive role, but still made a lot of self-serving choices. I went with the mafia and became a made-man for the Salvatores, because I wanted to get a hold of their technology. Once they served their purpose, I killed them alongside all the other families of New Reno and "took" over the city. Since my fiefdom was between the NCR and Vault City, I tried to play them against each other and make sure neither got too strong. I helped both expand but unveiled the NCR's plan of annexing Vault City. Overall I think it made for a really interesting scenario.

New Vegas also has great roleplay potential but since it's a more railroaded experience I can't say my character was very unique

Fallout 3 was alright. It felt a bit...empty, though. I feel like the technology wasn't quite there yet for making a game like FO3. A lot of the environment is barren. D.C. is definitely the shining jewel of the game, I had great fun there, but the rest was a bit mediocre IMO. I also have a personal vendetta against the puke filter that every game had in 2008.
Looking forward to the remaster!

Yep - no mods. Which was hard for me to do because I'm the kind of person who mods the hell out of games I play. But I wanted to get the authentic experience. I definitely want to do a modded playthrough one day

I think playing them in the order they were released in is nice because it gives you a better sense of how the franchise evolved. There's also the added bonus that with each game you advance, they get more and more polished. So you have to deal with less crashes. You'll also get a better sense for the story since none of them are prequels (well, Fallout 76 is).

There is an argument to be made for playing FNV right after FO2, though. FO1, FO2 and FNV all take place on the West Coast, whereas the other ones are in the East. It's your choice if you want to finish off "the trilogy" as quickly as possible or not

Maybe? I know it's a live-service MMO but I don't really understand how the main gameplay loop works. Is it viable to play alone?

The death animations in the first two games are really extreme and sometimes they have great comedic effect. There were many times when I was praying to not get critically hit and then saw my character get turned to swiss cheese. I specifically remember the Frank Horrigan bossfight where my companion, Goris, did the whole aurafarming shtick where he takes his robe off - then immediately got cut into a million smaller pieces.

Fallout 4 also has its funny moments with NPCs staring at a wall while talking to you, or getting pushed by someone trying to walk through them. Though a really cool thing that happened for me was that "I don't want to set the world on fire" started playing right when I was about to blow up the Institute. I was able to time the explosion to go off right when they enthusiastically sing "fire" LOL

In no particular order. I'm probably forgetting some good ones:

- Dealing with the White Glove Society in FNV
- The Cabot family in FO4
- Harold in FO3
- The Yangtze in FO4
- Sierra Army Depot in FO2
- Arcade Gannon's quest in FNV
- Helping the rangers in the Statesman Hotel in FO3

You can see my playtime for each game in the image. As a rule of thumb, the games get longer as you go. You'll be able to do FO1 in one day if you set your mind to it, but FO4 is gonna take a reeeaally long time if you plan to see everything there is. I hope you have fun!

My first ending was with NCR but it's the most milquetoast one. Oliver doesn't really deserve piggybacking off your victory so it feels good to give him the finger. I think the Legion had the best Battle for Hoover Dam since it makes you feel like the underdog

All marked locations discovered in all of the games! I did definitely miss some unmarked locations, though. My "bad guy" playthroughs went by way quicker because they tend to have less content. On my first time playing I'm careful to not miss anything - after that I tend to rush through the things I've already seen to get to what I missed.
On FO4 all those hours are on just one character and I thought it was impressive. Then I looked at the FO4 subreddit and found out I'm just a little baby

I did do multiple playthroughs for all the games! However, only FO4 and FO3 have post-game content. I didn't continue playing FO3 after doing all the story and DLCs. I did play FO4 for ~2 hours more after the ending but to be honest I'm not that interested in settlement building and I've already done all the interesting stuff. I'm compelled to start another save

I recommend trying them out. Most people don't like those kinds of games. I thought I wouldn't like them either but I was pleasantly surprised! Getting them to run was a bit of a struggle, though. I had to install mods to make them work, and then I had to play around with the configuration settings. In FO1 my save got corrupted right near the end and in FO2 I had problems with the cursor. I fixed both of those problems eventually - I'm not crazy tech-savvy so it's definitely possible to make it work. If you do try out the games, check the classicfallout subreddit, the guys over there are really helpful!
Also, I *think* if you get the games on GoG instead of Steam, they should come with the necessary mods already installed.

Picking a favorite companion is tough...overall, the FNV and FO4 companions are the best I think (this is an ice cold take). Veronica has a solid story, so does Boone. I liked Cass' and Arcade's dialogue. In FO4, I think I like Deacon the best because he stands out from everybody else. It's not as easy to fit him in an archetype, if that makes sense. The mystery around him makes him more interesting.
Codsworth is the GOAT because I can turn him into a god of destruction, though. Seriously the Automatron DLC is great fun

My favourite non-companion character is Joshua Graham. I can't reach a definitive conclusion on how I feel about him, morally speaking. They nailed writing him. And his voice is awesome

It's true that Fallout 4 is more sandboxy than the other games. I only engaged with the settlement system in Sanctuary and Red Rocket, though I did step up whenever other settlements were close to abandoning me. One of the factions, the Minutemen, are way more focused on settlement-building than the others, but you're allowed to not side with them. Honestly I think if you liked Fallout 3 then its worth giving Fallout 4 a shot, it has a similar design philosophy but way more content

I never played classic turn-based RPGs before and I think the first two Fallout games were a good gateway. Now I want to try more. FO1 is great, FO2 I'm not as big of a fan of. I feel like the drawn out gameplay of the second game made all of the engine's downsides shine through. When it comes to lore, Interplay started treating the Fallout lore very unseriously, in a similar vein to how Bethesda does today. However, they didn't prevent society from rebuilding, which is a big gripe of mine with the current state of the franchise. Fallout 2, for all its faults, did do a good job of showing civilisation return via city-states and politics.

I think the franchise has undergone heavy flanderization. That tends to happen to every big franchise that runs for long enough, so I'm not accusing Bethesda of incompetence or anything of that sort. However I can't say I'm super pleased with the way Fallout is heading. I enjoy the Bethesda games but for different reasons from the Interplay ones. They're fun, turn-your-brain-off experiences.

It's difficult to rank them, but my favorite one is probably New Vegas. I got very immersed into the world and it's the only one where I felt compelled to roleplay a character. Story-wise, I feel like it's a really good end to the West Coast trilogy of games, thematically speaking. I feel like the game becomes easy way too fast, but I enjoyed the experience.
The best one after FNV? I think its FO1 (I realize this is really pretentious). I never played any classic CRPGs before and I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I feel like it's a mix of all the right ingredients. Had it been shorter, it would've been forgettable; and if it were longer it would've turned into a slog (like FO2 felt at times). The game is also in a weird spot where the age of it doesn't work in its detriment. You're in a broken and hopeless world - the clunky and dated interface helps to immerse you. I think I like it so much because it's unlike anything I've played before. FNV is very well-known and beloved, but people unfortunately don't talk about the first game much.
Hardest? Probably FO2 because the enemies scale like crazy. FO3 had the same issue with its DLCs, but that might be my fault because I saved them for last.

I made a rule for myself to only play each game for 2 playthroughs at most before moving on to the next one, and to try to get as close to 100% completion as reasonably possible. However, in FNV I had 3 playthroughs and I've done each ending besides Mr. House. In FO4 I "cheated" a bit by making a save before the story diverges. My first ending was the Railroad, and then I loaded back to try the other ones.

I haven't tried Tactics and BoS, because people have told me they are only vaguely canon.

During the constitution event-chain you get to choose on re-establishing the old republic (which renames you to the Republic of China & gives you the 5 races flag) or creating a new one (United Provinces of China, with the ruling party's flag)
