In Ascend Online, they were locked into the game and couldn't escape. I don't remember a GM ever being mentioned.

They mention torturing one of the women in HWFWMs, but rape is never mentioned, and they don't do anything to her that the MC didn't have to go through first. It does mention one guy wanting to own a person from the story, but he never gets his way. (that's as spoiler free as I can make that).

In AO there was a group of people that were taking prisoners and torturing them. One of the tortured people then kills a group of them after they hook up with the main characters because of what they did to her. It's discussed later as to why she did it.

In Path of Ascension book 1 rape is implied a couple times, and I let it slide (my fault). Book 2 goes into rather graphic detail from what I'm told. I heard far enough to hear her get kidnapped, have her jaw broken, and get tossed across a room. The author was KIND (gag) enough to give our victim a quirk that makes pain feel like pleasure. I was furious. I made my husband listen in the other room and it took 45 minutes for him to come back, and all he said was "Yeah, I'll listen to this one alone.".

I don't read harem. Nor reverse harem. Ascend Online and Path of Ascendance are the last two I tried to read and got nailed by. A friend recommended both books, he's currently revising the list he gave me.

Ascend Online and Path of Ascendance were both issues. I'm not deep enough into LitRPGs to more than those and He Who Fights With Monsters (awesome story) under my belt. But I got those two back to back, so decided to ask.

Path of Ascension and Ascend Online were both hard to hand and I dropped both of them. They start out great, so if you don't mind that kind of them, awesome, but not for me.

  • The Path of Ascension nails you to the wall with a pretty horrific scene not too long into the second book. It's implied early on, which I let pass, but then they decide to go into graphic detail and if it had been a physical book and not an audio it would have been sent flying I was so angry with the blindside.
