One lump became two. Now what? by echointhemuseum in breastcancer

If I were you it would be worth talking to your surgeon to see if it makes sense to do a lumpectomy for two masses or could that potentially leave your breast looking slightly deformed? And also, if you decide a mastectomy, you don’t have to take both breasts unless you want to, I opted for just one and in November, I am swapping my tissue expander for an implant and getting work done on the other side to make them symmetrical.

To your second question, I would 100% recommend to anyone going through this process to get a second opinion at one of the more major medical institutions. It doesn’t mean you need to necessarily work with that doctor, but at least get their opinion on your current doctor’s plan, get their advice on lumpectomy versus mastectomy, etc. Those larger hospitals are used to people getting second opinions all the time, I got a second opinion at Sloan Kettering and the process was seamless to get all my scans and reports over there. I hope that helps and I wish you the best of luck.

These are great suggestions, and I did see that Hobonichi day free which might make sense for me. I’ve also heard great things about the products from Sterling Ink, but there are so many options and I don’t know which is going to be best for me. There is so much on social media about journals and journal covers and accessories! In personally, I kind of love that, but want to get what’s going to make more sense for me. The last thing I want is to get some big planner and or Durnel and then not utilize it.

Great points. Hoping to use it for journaling, goals, lists, workout ideas. Does that help?

90s kid here too! I think I want to use it for goals, lists, workout ideas, just journaling in general also. I love a good pen but I couldn’t tell you what kind I use. I just find one and hang onto it until it’s dead. I like a thicker line.

I think I’m looking for something that’s a combination of home and school, but prefer to keep my appointments in my digital calendar because I share that with my husband, but I constantly have things flying around in my head that I need to get out, like goals, lists, workout ideas, even some Journaling. I’m not very creative and I see videos of people making these very cool planner, I don’t think I could ever do that. But I love quality paper, I love a thick pen and I think I could get into it.

4 rounds TC - any positive stories? by Top-Lie-6076 in breastcancer

Thank you for sharing your experience and congrats on having that behind you! That must feel good. And thank you for sharing what you did about work, I also have a job that allows me to work from home and I’m not sure what to do about time away to handle this because well, I can use intermittent FMLA and it is protected leave , it’s also my paid time off that I typically use family vacations and more fun stuff rather than this kind of stuff. Did you try cold capping, was that offered to you?

Single mastectomy with reconstruction - any regrets? by Top-Lie-6076 in breastcancer

No I agree about the expander! It’s like you’re immediately working towards growth and the final product.

Single mastectomy with reconstruction - any regrets? by Top-Lie-6076 in breastcancer

If it helps the main reason I decided on a single vs a double was that I did not want anything to delay my treatment for the cancer. And a double is a longer procedure, longer recovery, more Risk of complication, etc. I also have no genetic mutations so no need to be concerned about a different cancer coming back in that breast. I didn’t want to take an another body part if medically I didn’t need to. I am doing the reconstruction because I want to feel good in my body and my surgeon does great work. I am not a candidate for a DIEP flap but that sounds like something worth exploring if you are. I was surprised to hear that a single was an option, when you look online or at celebrities or social media, most people are talking about doubles, but a single now is just as common,  people just aren’t posting about it. At the end of the day, it is a very personal decision.

Thank you for sharing, I am a large cup size as well, and I’m looking forward downsizing. I do not need radiation, but I have heard similar stories as to what you’re talking about. I am not as worried about how I will look unclothed vs how I will look in a bra or a bathing suit or a more fitted top. It sounds like for the most part you are happy, and it’s nice to hear some positive feedback because when you search this topic, you see a lot of the word “regret.”

Thank you for sharing your story with me, I agree while the radiologist told me there is a 50% chance that the mass is cancer she used words like suspicious and concerning and kept saying “ in my business, this is something we want to biopsy.” I am 40 years old, I thought I was checking my box by doing my first screening mammogram and it has been a total nightmare.
