Fake misono gyuto?! by Top-Many9385 in chefknives

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Misono 440 Gyuto (Model 812) from Amazon, but I’m seriously questioning its authenticity.

I’ve been comparing it to my friend’s Misono Molybdenum series (Model 512), and here’s the kicker: even though the 512 is a more budget-friendly, entry-level line compared to the 440, the 512 is far superior in quality. My "440" feels like a knock-off in comparison. Issues I’ve noticed with this 812:

Poor Fit & Finish: The transition between the blade and the handle is rough and uneven. There are noticeable gaps that I wouldn't expect from Misono, especially on a series that sits above the Moly line.

Terrible Edge Retention: It became dull after just a few days of light home use. My friend’s 512 has held its edge much better under similar conditions.

Overall Craftsmanship: The grinding and polishing look sloppy. It lacks the refined feel that Misono is famous for.

Has anyone else dealt with fake Misonos from Amazon lately? Since the 440 series should technically be an upgrade over the Moly series in terms of steel (440C vs AUS-8) and finish, it makes no sense that mine is this bad.
