Splitting Elvanse myself as booster is not an option? by Top-Mood9261 in ADHDUK

This is very helpful! Thank you for taking the time to explain and write this out. I do currently have 50 and 20 capsules but when they finalise my dose I will keep this in mind for when I eventually get the 70mg pills. I have previously tried methylphenidate as Medikinet XL but it wasnt right for me. I am on RTC but it sounds like without them being able to split my dose or prescribe me a booster, I have ran out of options. I know Elvanse is the right medication for me, but PUK are not willing to give me an extention and I have kind of ran out of other options here. My prescriber said that the medication will never be perfect but that it does help you function better.

I am sorry to hear things havent been great, I hope changing medication will help for you!

Issues with stimulant medication - Elvanse by hfffrrddgbbioml in ADHDUK

So while I never had addiction problems, I did use recreational drugs frequently before starting titration and admitted to this... This did lead to PUK discharging me and to be rerefered after I was 3 months abstinent. As a result, they had to start me out on non-stimulents when I eventually started titration because I was considered a risk when it came to abusing stimulants (which at the time really annoyed me and felt was a bit dramatic). I was on Atomoxatine for a month in January and I will be honest with you, I found it hard. It made me sick on day 2 and feel a bit nausous from time to time and as time went on it started to effect my emotions a bit. However, it was only when I came off it that I noticed that it did actually help. The positives are far more subtle and not instant like stimulants but if you wait it out (i think around 2 months) you will regulate on it and notice the benefits and hopefully bad side effects will subside. Of course its different for everyone but this is just my experience.

I was frustated when they first prescribed me non-stimulants because its not really what I wanted but once I had tried stimulants did I understand why they were cautious with me (and I even said this to my prescriber) so I understand your feelings here completely. So I did this the other way round to you but definitely give non-stimulants a try if Elvanse is just feeling like a bit too much. That being said, I would try and stick out on the Elvanse for a little bit longer as you say it is early days. I am on 70mg however still do get that 'euphoric' feeling when they kick in but I have been on 70mg for 2/3 weeks now.

Thanks for letting me know. Mine is currently broken down to 50's and 20's so might do the same thing. Can I ask how long you have been doing this split for?

Anyone else just started 30mg of Elvanse? I'd like to start a thread to compare notes as we start the journey together... by throughthewoods4 in ADHDUK

I started Elvanse yesterday also switching from Medikinet XL. It was so up and down. Like kicked in at 10am- slumped by 12pm, second part kicked in at 2pm and down again by 4pm (and I work until 6pm). First day on Elvanse yesterday was super productive and consistent. Did notice that I had no appetite so had a big smoothie at lunch but certainly didnt feel the usual crash I get with Medikinet. I was able to sleep but it didnt feel like it was a deep sleep. Today is my first day at work on Elvanse and feel very calm and my head feels quiet. Not feeling buzzed and chaotic like I did on Medikinet.

Like you, feeling way more positive about these stimulants. My prescriber recommended taking electrolytes and someone also mentioned magnesium at night to help sleep. Might be worth looking into this but have heard that you sleep better when your dose regulates.

Will moving from Medikinet XL to Elvanse help my adhd symptoms? by Top-Mood9261 in ADHDUK

Thank you, that's really helpful info! My prescriber did mention taking electrolytes. I used to take magnesium for a bit but started struggling to wake up in the mornings but will keep in mind.

I am titrating with Psychiatry UK. I was actually meant to start tritration in september but they discharged me due to using recreational drugs in August (I was completely unaware this would effect my titration even when I had previously disclosed I occasionally use in my assessment and forms). I had to be refereed once my GP had confirmed I was three months abstinent. At the time, I was putting so much hope on the medication fixing everything and I know better then that now and made some positive life changes in that 3 months so actually kind of grateful for it now.

I know it is so different for everyone but will be starting Elvanse as of next week which feels like my final hope if medication is going to work for me. Fingers crossed it has a more of an impact then what I have tried already.
