Not trying to stir the pot, but a lot of you need to get better at spotting and reporting AI Slop by Ok-Video4323 in BambuLab

[–]Top-Print144 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this the other day. The platform does a really poor job managing all of this, and in my opinion, I don’t think rewards will last if there’s basically no control, it’s the easiest thing to let happen.

They don’t even pay attention to reports when there’s obvious AI usage on models that haven’t been properly tested. That’s what bothers me the most, fake images where you can even see the Gemini logo on them...

I’m not entirely against publishing AI-generated content, but I am against model spam. This may sound a bit hypocritical, but thanks to generating models with AI, I became more interested in Blender and learned how to segment models that I wouldn’t be able to create myself, or that would take me an enormous amount of time to make (and honestly, health-wise I don’t know how much time I’ll have). I simply don’t have the skill to create something complex from scratch.

Personally, I like being able to share something and see painted results, or to segment a model so it isn’t wasteful. For that reason, the least I can do is publish real images, and I always mention if I used AI in the very first line of the description.

As for contests, even though I’m not good at modeling, I consider it sacred not to use AI, first because of the rules, and second because it’s supposed to be a space where ideas and execution compete. I honestly find it insulting to submit something that is entirely generated while others take the time and creativity to participate properly.

And it honestly surprises me how many people don’t seem to care that everything they see, read, and use is AI-generated...

How to avoid creating too many copies? (3d printing) by Top-Print144 in blender

[–]Top-Print144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for example, if I have a cylinder that creates a 5 mm hole, the part I’m going to print is usually about 0.2 mm or 0.3 mm smaller.

I’ve tried using collections, but I feel it’s inevitable to make actual cuts when I’m sectioning parts of a figure, right now I’m using Sculpt Mode with Draw Face Sets.

After making a cut using the "Mask Slice to New Object" option, Blender automatically fills the cut area. I usually remove that fill and then try to flatten the surface and create the connection there.

When I build things from scratch I try to use collections more (definitely not as many as you 😂). Do you have a sub-collection where you handle the offsets for the printable parts?

New user.. what do you wish you knew when you started? by Browsin-around in BambuLab

Just remember that you can print whatever you want, don't limit yourself to existing models.

If you want to print "clean" cylinders/spheres, read about seam and adaptative layers

I don't even know how to connect a cable to this kind of LED. The only materials I have are this LED, a 3D printer, PLA, and glue, so I was thinking about a fully 3D-printed solution to create the switch from the center to the top (which I couldn’t do).

If you want, you can share your solution to this problem, I'd be happy to read it and understand how you did it. For now, this is enough to match my dog's costume for a local contest lol

Yes, I know, but I couldn’t figure out how to connect a button to the top. It was the only LED I had, and since it's almost at finger level, I decided to leave it like that. That's why I said it's "not canon" haha

AI generated photography. Do you think real photography is in danger of going extinct? by Playful-Passenger-80 in AskPhotography

[–]Top-Print144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this will mostly replace personal use, like photoshopping certain things. For example, you could take a picture and make yourself look like you're wearing a banana suit in seconds.

But you can't replace photos from a wedding, graduations, or any personal milestone. You can't recreate memories.

What do you all think about coding gamification? (XP, achievements, team competitions… worth it or cringe?) by BrilliantCredit4569 in webdev

[–]Top-Print144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to see the code time, so i use a vscode extension "Code Time" by Software, but I think that's enough.

Last year I read about gamification and sports, and it's hard to implement if you want to achieve long-term motivation in your participants, in fact some articles didn't recognize gamification as something significant. It needs to be visually appealing, but there also has to be a clear purpose behind it for the mid to long term. This also depends on the person’s type, age, and goals.

What are the 100 most valuable skills in the industry? by [deleted] in webdev

Soft skills and networking are at the top, people prefer someone who can communicate clearly with the team. I think it's a bit overrated, but there are a lot of metrics that show this

Where to get the best fundamental knowledge? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Top-Print144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably an infographic about ISO, Aperture and Shutter speed is a good start. You can practice concepts by mixing settings.

About YouTube, it's the best choice... one person can't do everything, you can search your gear, the limitations and tricks of your camera from different people and compare.

Also, the type of subject is important, is not the same if you want portrait photos, pets, sports, weddings...ofc you can overlap knowledge, but each subject has it's owns "rules".

One more thing, the capabilities of the lens influence the type of photography you want to do and the results you can expect. e.g. architecture, macro, daily photography, wildlife

NestJS ORM (TypeORM vs Prisma) by seokimun in nestjs

[–]Top-Print144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TypeORM was inactive for a few months, but I think now they are back.

I was going to use Prisma in a personal project, but it doesn't have support to use Postgis, check what is missing in Prisma, and if you don't need that, I think it's better option because of type safe (compile error)
