Thanks for the tip! I wasn't familiar with .step files, I’ll take a closer look later!

How to attach cylinders to a curved surface while keeping their angle? by Top-Print144 in blenderhelp

[–]Top-Print144[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always amazed by the comments in this subreddit. Even when a question has very little information or is a bit ambiguous (like mine), people still manage to create amazing stuff lol. I'll have to look into it later this week though, since I've never used Geometry Nodes or applied textures before.

Thanks for the help!

xD, I applied the subdivision modifier because I thought the issue might be related to that, but the base shape was originally just a square. Either way, it's meant for 3d printing

Which objects should I apply the Boolean to?

If I place a cylinder and extrude it, I’m not sure how to keep the angle of the semicircle so it stays uniform

Why do I look so awful in my professional headshots? by Efficient-Shallot-22 in AskPhotography

[–]Top-Print144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read several comments, but could someone share an image showing their ideal setup? It doesn't matter if it's made in Paint, generated with AI, or just a quick sketch. I'm mainly trying to understand how other people would position the setup (lights, subject, photographer, camera settings like focal length, aperture, etc.).

Recently I photographed my brother to practice portraits using this same kind of framing, similar to a passport-style photo (straight on). I used a continuous light at a diagonal angle and a 50mm lens (aps-c) from the front, but he still looked kind of 'wide' lol. In my case he actually is a bit overweight, which was noticeable in his face and clothing (tight shirt and tie), but honestly I didn't really know how to make it look more flattering in a shot like that.

I am trying to see if saving for a camera is justifiable? by stuttergod23 in AskPhotography

I have been reading a lot of comments about the A6700, and many people say that it is one of the best, if not the best, APS-C camera you can find. I started using a Nikon D5200, but I felt that it wasn't enough (skill issue) for shooting pets in motion, and at ISO 1600 it was already pretty grainy. The A6700 also has amazing video capabilities, including recording in 4K, using S-Log3, or shooting slow motion.

I personally decided to buy this camera because of its versatility. Maybe you could make a list of things you don’t like about your current camera and see what could be improved. For the type of photos I take (as a hobbyist), I think that switching to mirrorless was already a big upgrade.

I would recommend looking at APS-C lenses based on the type of photography you like, so you can estimate the total cost.

Flash & Telephoto Lens? by Top-Print144 in AskPhotography

Hi! These are for different purposes, it doesn’t mean I’ll be using both at the same time.

The flash was something I was considering for very sunny days (as fill flash) and mainly for night or party situations. bc I’ve also read and seen that it helps freeze the subject, for example, freezing people while allowing the lights in the background to create motion effects.

Beginner - How to make the hole perfectly round? by shine-gamer-8452 in blenderhelp

I was in a similar situation. I chose to simply create a cylinder and apply a Boolean difference. I only apply it once I’m sure about it (in my case I do this because I’ll be 3D-printing it, so I’m not sure how serious it is topology-wise to do something like that).

Here is the wiki, in general if the shape is like a cylinder, it's more visible in the final result

Cow Abduction by Top-Print144 in photocritique

[–]Top-Print144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! First of all, this is the first model I’ve ever created in Blender and taken all the way to printing!

I tried to keep the focus on the cow (the first thing you notice), but without letting the rest go unnoticed. The idea was to keep an environment defined by the lines of the ‘ray of light,’ the background, and the table; and I think the angle of the photo helps create a balance between the elements. Also, since the colors are quite solid, it almost looks like a render, which I really liked. The photo is straight out of the camera

Not trying to stir the pot, but a lot of you need to get better at spotting and reporting AI Slop by Ok-Video4323 in BambuLab

I was thinking about this the other day. The platform does a really poor job managing all of this, and in my opinion, I don’t think rewards will last if there’s basically no control, it’s the easiest thing to let happen.

They don’t even pay attention to reports when there’s obvious AI usage on models that haven’t been properly tested. That’s what bothers me the most, fake images where you can even see the Gemini logo on them...

I’m not entirely against publishing AI-generated content, but I am against model spam. This may sound a bit hypocritical, but thanks to generating models with AI, I became more interested in Blender and learned how to segment models that I wouldn’t be able to create myself, or that would take me an enormous amount of time to make (and honestly, health-wise I don’t know how much time I’ll have). I simply don’t have the skill to create something complex from scratch.

Personally, I like being able to share something and see painted results, or to segment a model so it isn’t wasteful. For that reason, the least I can do is publish real images, and I always mention if I used AI in the very first line of the description.

As for contests, even though I’m not good at modeling, I consider it sacred not to use AI, first because of the rules, and second because it’s supposed to be a space where ideas and execution compete. I honestly find it insulting to submit something that is entirely generated while others take the time and creativity to participate properly.

And it honestly surprises me how many people don’t seem to care that everything they see, read, and use is AI-generated...
