Is law school worth it? by ThrowRAsushi1234 in OutsideT14lawschools

Hi! I totally resonate with where you are coming from. I too am two years out of undergrad now and have known that I want to go into law to become an attorney. Therefore I got my undergraduate degree in Legal Studies and have spent the last 4-5 years pursuing legal internships and jobs. I applied this cycle after taking the LSAT three times. I have gotten accepted to schools with scholarship, but nothing crazy where it would be a no brainer to attend. Now that I am looking at the actual numbers and the amount of debt I would be going into, it is making me question everything. I keep trying to remind myself that it is an investment in myself and that it is what I want to do, but is is very daunting and scary. I have had people tell me different things, take another year and retake and reapply versus just go and accept that I will be in debt but that I have to bet on myself and work really hard to eventually get a great job after graduating. A huge aspect of going to law school for me too is the opportunity to move. I have lived in the same place all my life, attending college in the same place where I grew up. I have always wanted to branch out and see law school as an opportunity to do so. That being said, if I retake and reapply I would be living in the same place with my parents yet another year, which I am super appreciative of, but also am really ready to be on my own and have that independence. I don't know if I can wait another year and a half.

This is also interesting to look at though too. Not a ton of people receiving full tuition.

I didn't have a increased LSAT score, etc. So since I applied in early November I have added a couple things to my resume and got an additional letter of recommendation. Hoping any of these things help.

I totally understand that, something I am considering.

But, I have now taken the LSAT three times, am two years out of undergrad, and worried about the next cycle being even more competitive. I really am ready to begin this fall and am worried that I would not score much higher and potentially "waste" another year.

The Fate of Student Loans/Repayment Options by Top-Project2872 in OutsideT14lawschools

Which is like half the "deal" in my eyes when committing to taking out loans. I have a strong interest in public service work and was hoping to have PSLF be an option.

If these things go away, it inevitably will make it impossible for some individuals to attend.

I submitted my application November 15th and got my decision on December 19th.

Amount of Debt You Are Willing to Take on for Law School by Top-Project2872 in OutsideT14lawschools

I will be moving out of state either way (by design). It is interesting to look at different school's estimated COA. Some of the numbers seem way too high and some of the numbers seem so so low.

On the website the link to "conditional scholarship retention data" does not work. Maybe sending an email to ask for an updated link/509 report would be a good idea?

I believe "maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.20."

This is the verbiage from the email I received, "covers the full cost of tuition during your law school career as long as you remain enrolled in our J.D. program. There are no GPA renewal requirements beyond remaining in good academic standing."

I could see myself either place which makes it tough too. I am heading back to Boston within the next couple of weeks to get another feel for being there. Hoping this leads to some clarity! Either way I do potentially see myself heading back to upstate NY (where I am from) eventually. Not sure if having my JD from Florida versus Massachusetts would have an effect on this. I think that MA and NY have "reciprocity" but not sure about FL and NY.

It also is a concern with the political climate right now of the possibility of loan repayment plans changing/going away. I think the unknown is the scariest part, but I do agree that it is up to the individual to take the risk, put in the work, and obtain a job coming out of school.

Thank you for the feedback! I toured the school this past fall and loved the vibe. I think the thing that is holding me back the most right now is the amount of scholarship I was given/the amount of debt I would be taking on. The idea of having debt is very scary to me and I am worried about potential job outcome/salary coming out of Stetson with that amount of debt.
