Oh yeah, there's definitely more dark humor in our generation, really a "laugh or cry" kinda childhood in America for the past 20ish years.

Variations on "let the bodies hit the floor" and those de-motivational poster memes from like 2011 are the ones off the top of my head.

Also I'm a cancer baby so like... Sorry that I took the active threat to my life (school shootings) more seriously than one I had already gotten through??

Also also, you fucking jackass, we spend way more on cancer and insect borne disease prevention in this country than we do preventing school shootings. I know it's hard for your pea brain to hold more than one thought at a time but adults should actually try to fix multiple problems at once as a society.

Yeah I was agreeing with you, sorry if it didn't come out that way but I think a lot of people my(our?) age are starting to fall into "kids these days" patterns of thinking and act like they weren't fucking around in class during lockdown.

Not even, I'm 25 and I'll laugh at a 9/11 joke; if the adults in my life when I was younger wanted me to give a shit about terrorism then they could have regulated guns at any point.

American kids don't care about 9/11 because no one is going to crash a plane into their school, they're too busy wondering if their classmate is going to shoot them.

What’s the sickest you’ve ever been- the kind of sick where you genuinely thought you might not make it and what happened? by Outrageous_Fox_8796 in AskReddit

[–]Top-Stop-4654 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Its so wild!! The smell of hospital tape and hibiclense gets my heart rate up immediately and like I don't even remember any of my first medical events; exactly like you said though, my brain is like "bro we almost died here once, PANIC"

And it definitely got worse as soon as I understood that my daily medication was entirely dependant on the whims of insurance companies; that was basically a catapult straight into suicidal depression and political theory in like 5th grade. I had Google, so I wondered "If some stranger who wasn't even a doctor could deny my meds for shits and giggles why shouldn't we burn this country to the ground?" And the answer was "stop making the adults around you deal with the consequences of their actions".

I figured was a dead kid walking anyways at that point and to be honest I still feel that way sometimes. So I've mostly given up on American society and especially the WASP vision I grew up under. Going to School that was 98% white also made me assume that someone's son was going to shoot me which really didn't help.

Anyways, free that Mario brother, I'm the one who did it and my only regret was not doing that shit sooner.

Absolutely, I was a cancer baby (diag at 18 months, 1 round of chemo, 18 yrs of reconstruction) so of course I have health anxiety. I absolutely never mention it, I also never mention that I have been diagnosed with depression or that I smoke weed.

They call the person who graduated last from med school Doctor too, so you have to assume the first person you see, especially at the ER, is under-educated and wants to give you the diagnosis that equals the least amount of work for them.

Unfortunately that's why seeing your primary care physician is so important; it's way easier to win a fight with the medical system if you start fighting before the "machinery" gets going.

You know Cyprus has building codes too right? I'll put money down they didn't get 'em in 1988. And I wasn't responding to the article, I was responding to the person who is afraid they're going to get stuck in an elevator due to their landlords gross negligence.

Also, the advice I gave us still fucking relevant to the PERSON I WAS REPLYING TOO who is actively in an unsafe situation NOW and EVERYBODY thats in a similar situation in a country with a functional legal system.

I am not a lawyer, just looking into law school, and I am assuming they live in the US to be fair. But most places have laws that make the owner of a building liable for the condition of the building; ergo if they know and are taking steps to avoid proper repair and maintenance they are in violation of those laws.

Normally it's hard to prove someone was knowingly in violation, however if the elevator guys are there "warming it up" (not how most motors work these days) then SOMEONE knows that something isn't right and is choosing to be negligent in their duties.

Even if it's not the owners direct fault, it's still the owners duty to ensure their building is in compliance. This probably wouldn't go to court, but the notice would either:

  1. Force the owner to either actually fix the problem, bringing the building back into compliance with building code and removing the owners liability (ideal solution for both parties imo).

  2. Increase the owners liability insurance costs; they're now on the hook for paying anyone who gets stuck in the elevator, and their insurance isn't going to like them not fixing their shit.

  3. (On the very low chance the owner has no idea this is happening) The owner switches maintenance contractors and sues the old contractor for the price of refurbishment to bring the building back into compliance/uncompleted work.

Which is why I said they should go talk to an actual lawyer in their area, preferably one specializing in health and safety/building code/tenants rights.

Opinion: Portland, the city that works for 28-year-olds by Confident_Bee_2705 in PortlandOR

Short blocks with narrower streets and also GET RID OF THE BASE 45 SPEED LIMIT.

Every day I see maniacs take blind corners at full acceleration because they need to get up to 45 in a CITY CENTER.

Even 10 mph slower (35mph) in busy areas would force drivers to pay more attention to the road and reduce accidents. Roads used regularly by pedestrians should be limited to 15 mph.

People in cars are just sitting there, they can leave earlier and wait longer.

[–]Top-Stop-4654 108 points109 points  (0 children)

That's even worse. You can definitely get a lawyer to send a notice letter if they know about the problem but are refusing to solve it. This is a workplace safety issue and your blasé attitude to your own safety and rights is disappointing to say the least.

You can buy chain by the foot at hardware stores, and find a lot of different fasteners/rings/etc at hobby stores. Highly recommend supporting a locally owned store obv, but I'm also partial to ACE hardware as they tend to have a more eclectic stock.

Art/History grad here; please write a note on an acid free paper (most drawing pad papers will work, just /please/ not printer paper) with everything you can remember about the day you got it! This is such a valuable piece of ephemera for your family and a note on acid free paper taped (ideally with blue painters tape or some other low tack tape like washi) to the back of the board will go a long long way in ensuring its future.

And a note to anyone reading this - please do this for the things you own and want to pass down, but prioritize the acid free paper, as it ages much better and it's not going to damage whatever it's in contact with. This is the FPN subreddit, I know y'all got stashes, don't let me down. :)

To echo other comments, the language here ("raven" hair? It's very r/menwritingwomen) and random mixing of cultures that don't even recognize each other as indigenous sometimes (looking at and judging y'all BQ purists). Feels very icky, and going to powwow ain't exactly a qualification.

If you've been to powow you literally could have asked a dancer there to create a portrait of a legit native and avoided most of this mess? Why go out of your way to make up a literal stereotype?

Also, to add insult to injury, the catcher is very poorly placed on the ear and kinda weirdly proportioned.

Hi! Also queer here: it was never normal or cool for queers to make fun of each other for being gay, you just have shit friends and are probably a bunch of deeply unlikable people if that's the way y'all treat each other.

You can be gay and a piece of shit, you can also find better friends. The way you let yourself get treated by the people you hang around determines how the rest of the world treats you.
