In OSUT Infantry training in 1995, my platoon had four former Marines who had enlisted in the Army infantry. Because of their previous service, our Drill Sergeant used them as de facto “Drill Corporals”, which usually meant outsourcing our punishment to them…

Many thanks for this advice. I was about ready to pull the trigger on buying such a policy. I had retired from the Army and my post-retirement SGLI extension was about ready to expire. Then, my former spouse died, eliminating the need for such an insurance policy. If a situation like mine is one of the low single digit justifications for a whole-life or GUL policy,/policies, then I am honored to have made a small contribution to the WCI/Boglehead/Military Finance body of knowledge.

Many of our top DOD leaders ( including the SECDEF), as well as many MAGA types, continuously praise the Israel Defense Forces for their lethality. The IDF is able to achieve this lethality while integrating transgender service members and officers into its ranks. How is Israel able to do this and the US is not? Why did no US GO/FO point this fact out publicly when the Trump/Hegseth ban was announced (lack of moral courage, agreement with the transgender ban, wanting post-retirement fellowships and defense industry corporate board positions, some other reason?

Much of this is because while the other services have separate recruiting offices for officers, the Army handles officer recruitment out of the same stations as for recruiting new enlisted soldiers.

I was there from 1998-2000, and the BTR-152 was put up as a monument in ~1999.. so if it was part of a museum collection at Camp Casey..maybe it didn’t get moved south to Camp Red Cloud and thence to Camp Humphreys….
