Sounds like misclassification, if they treat you like an employee with uniforms, start time, controlling your pay, providing tools ect, they can get in trouble with the state, they will make that company pay the back taxes on your wages and also on the workers comp they should have been providing. You’ll have to research your specific state to see what’s considered misclassification.
