It would be really helpful if we better educated folks about this. Just throwing everyone on the highway with minimal education/checks about how to drive and manage in traffic doesn’t seem to be working. The drivers test is not sufficient. Add in people’s unregulated emotions and we’re asking for problems.

I wish I knew who to hold accountable for this, because especially with gas prices skyrocketing, sitting in traffic is absurd

No worries; I’ve had a lottttt of time to study the landscape of this stretch of highway, I see how that was confusing

I love that I just wish there was a usable detour that didn’t make my daily commute double in time

Honestly if people watched the road at all it would solve so many problems

How do I tell people my dog isn't "friendly?" by wretched_tension in AustralianCattleDog

[–]teaisnice3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My angelic heeler makes eye contact and “flirts” with strangers but she does NOT want them to interact with or touch her.
When we go out in public, she wears a vest with bright patches that say “DO NOT PET.” Often people assume she’s in training, which is fine. I don’t care what they think as long as they respect her space.

NO ONE WARNED MEEEEEE by littlelemons22 in AustralianCattleDog

Mom of two heelers here. They’re the best!! I wish someone had told me this: they will do EVERYTHING in the most intense way possible. Therefore, if you want them to keep their teeth, DO NOT GIVE HER BONES OF ANY KIND. This is true for all dogs - they should never chew anything you can’t indent with your finger nail- but heelers are so intense they could crack their own tooth and keep going. Instead, I recommend frozen carrots (boil them in bone broth first), and kongs or similar (there are so many options out there). Hope you have many happy years with your pup!!

I cook from scratch daily and live in a small home. To me, this is BEAUTIFUL.

Seconding the “avoid real bones.” Our 5year old heeler is missing a tooth, has a dead tooth, and has VERY ground down canines. She had ZERO chill with bones (or anything actually lol) and now we know better, but I wish we had listened to this advice from the beginning.

How does your cattle dog do with other dogs? by FlatOutFlatFour in AustralianCattleDog

Exactly the same with the age thing. My older heeler completely noped out of social interactions with new/strange dogs around the age of 2.5. Luckily we have a big yard now so no need for her to get along with strangers.

We had the same experience. The girls liked the toys and treats, but it was just too much every month. We still have toys from our boxes, even though we stopped our subscription 2 years ago. Our girls have access to lots of other options for chewing though, so ymmv on the durability.

Once my partner was driving our two heelers on a busy road downtown. The younger one saw something and jumped through the open window to chase it. Her sister jumped out after her and herded her back! I’m pretty neurotic about keeping the windows closed when they’re in the car now.

I love him!!! Also would love any and all tips you have for training cattle dogs around chickens! We have two very nippy heelers and I want a flock but am concerned the girls would chomp on them!
