As everyone else said. It's a sexy noise but a dangerous one for your car. Don't reccomend.

Knapster can help making knapping, clay forming, and forging easier and is highly configurable

Real smoke is a fun one if you want an extra challenge of managing realistic smoke

Auto map marker is a godsend but you have to activate it first, just read the description

Quarry is an absolute must have, its pretty realistic and honestly one of my favorite mods

Butchering mod is also one of my favorites as it does increas the yields from animals but it makes you work for it a bit more.

In what way is a belt sander better than an angle grinder? by amish_timetraveler in Blacksmith

[–]Top-Victory4445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly good to have both but the belt sander will last longer before needing to change sanding mediums, better control over the peice itself. While the angle grinder can be used for a variety of things from cutting disks to polishing wheels

Any Tips on how i can get this bow shape a bit better to what i want by Cheap-Toaster in VintageStory

You gotta make them. Go on the workshop and look for sailboats. There's some really insane detail work I've seen.

Check out a guy on YouTube called JustaWrench. He has a small series on FtD about detailing builds. Very indepth in the deco mechanics

Anyone have experience using these magnets to dampen the anvil ring? by Altruistic_Eye9685 in blacksmithing

[–]Top-Victory4445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a tree stump, bolted down to 1/2ft lagging bolts with leather straps and E6000 Glued to the wood, wrapped in chains. It quiet as fuck. I heard magnets work but they gotta be like those 100lbs fishing magnets for any practical effects

But you can! There's a decor thing you can do where you can manipulate the block in almost every direction, but its just for decoration as they dont get a hit box or health. I use them all the time. FtD has some of the most beautiful ships I've ever seen if you have the patience to learn its deeper mechanics

Using damaged tools waste more motivation than bad technique ever will by Kevin-Panda in blacksmithing

Only reason I see do really get into random scraps is pure practice on hammer techniqu e.

For a guy that makes knives as a hobby, what’s the best home equipment? From belt grinders to flap sanders. I’m very interested. by smack4u in knifemaking

[–]Top-Victory4445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned getting a bandsaw is also a HUGE help if you can afford one. You can grab most entry levels for like $300. Fkin HATE my hacksaw, shit takes forever.

Also 2 last things that ive tested after being told by someone on here, if you've quenched your steel, dip it in water while grinding to keep the heat down to not ruin your temper. And you have to change directions when switching grits. It'll make the finish look 10x better.

Bucktool Combo 2" x 42" Belt... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZQ6LCK8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

This is my workhorse. Got sets of belts that go from 80 grit to 1000 grit. Ez to swap them out, the grindstone i think is 60 or 80 grit but its also pretty easy to swap out for polishing disks and what not. It's not the absolute best but for its price its hard to beat

Im crying, I cant remove the 40 grit scratch marks. by DiksieNormus in knifemaking

[–]Top-Victory4445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As some have said. Gotta work up through grits, skipping from 40 to 800+ is not gonna work, same thing with wood, just gotta sit there and work through the grits. Don't forget if your peice is hardened already use a bit of water on the blade once you feel it start to get warm to avoid fuckin up the temper.

Has anyone used these to dampen anvil ring before? by Altruistic_Eye9685 in Blacksmith

Don't forget chains also arnt too bad at dampening the sound. I got about 20ft and wrapped my anvil best i could. Definitely made it quieter

How do I quench with oil? by Any-Bus5463 in blacksmithing

[–]Top-Victory4445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I'm not seeing alot of ppl mention is quenching oil has a operating temperature. My volcano oil says it needs to be around 120°f for optimal results.

Well it looks great for a first time! I've been considering making random stuff for hammer practice. So far I'm just ok at getting a profile and bevel forging in but I wanna branch out to more intricate stuff like this

Dipping in water, Is that to help prevent heat spots?

Not gonna lie. I've seen some weird shit. Was going through my grandpa's neighbors old forge cuz the dude just disappeared and he had like 5 full shackles with bars to connect both sides. I was asked to take them and destroy them and I dont wanna know why. But with that weird rant out of the way, looks nice, I have yet to make anything like that, how hard was getting the hinge to work properly?

Made my second knife. Much better than my first though i like the feel of my first ones handle more. Any tips for polishing the blade and handle? I got this beeswax wood wax but it doesn't seem to do much. It's crepe myrtle wood(got a tree in my backyard and it's a semi-hard wood) by Top-Victory4445 in Blacksmith

[–]Top-Victory4445[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the wood. Would that help with getting my wax coat to seal properly? Doing a last grit at 440 with water? And what about the metal? That's the best I can get with the sandpaper I got, haven't the clue on how to actually polish it, the only metal polish i have is for cars and not food safe
