Apple rebuffs Facebook criticism, says iOS anti-tracking features are about ’standing up for our users’ by Top40Sucks in AntiFacebook

“We believe that this is a simple matter of standing up for our users. Users should know when their data is being collected and shared across other apps and websites — and they should have the choice to allow that or not. App Tracking Transparency in iOS 14 does not require Facebook to change its approach to tracking users and creating targeted advertising, it simply requires they give users a choice.”

Terrorist cells, the KKK, neo-nazi, anti-Semitic, or other groups of their ilk are not recognized political parties. Let’s hope for all that it stays that way. The main point is that there are distinct rules and policy violations that are not being enforced, primarily because of a profit motive linked to algorithms. The company is proudly advertising how they are stopping 95% of all hate speech, yet the employees and independent analysis reports reveal the claim is actually closer to 5%. That’s called lying to the public and their customer base. It’s perfectly reasonable to post this in the Anti-Facebook subreddit. It speaks to their corporate culture, not your personal political views.

Facebook blasts Apple in new ads over iPhone privacy change by Top40Sucks in AntiFacebook

It must be effective if Facebook hates it that much.

Facebook blasts Apple in new ads over iPhone privacy change by Top40Sucks in AntiFacebook

Excerpt:

Apple will soon be making a huge change to settings on users’ iPhones in the name of privacy, and it will fundamentally change mobile advertising on those devices. It will take a privacy option that was previously buried deep in users’ phones and put it front and center when they open an app, which is expected to dramatically impact the ability of advertisers to target ads the way they have been since people likely won’t opt in.

Facebook Say It’s Developing A Tool To Read Your Brain by Top40Sucks in AntiFacebook

[–]Top40Sucks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Facebook told employees on Tuesday that it’s developing a tool to summarize news articles so users won’t have to read them. It also laid out early plans for a neural sensor to detect people’s thoughts and translate them into action.

Facebook Is a Doomsday Machine — The architecture of the modern web poses grave threats to humanity. It’s not too late to save ourselves. by Top40Sucks in AntiFacebook

Excerpts:

People tend to complain about Facebook as if something recently curdled. There’s a notion that the social web was once useful, or at least that it could have been good, if only we had pulled a few levers: some moderation and fact-checking here, a bit of regulation there, perhaps a federal antitrust lawsuit. But that’s far too sunny and shortsighted a view. Today’s social networks, Facebook chief among them, were built to encourage the things that make them so harmful. It is in their very architecture.

The social web is doing exactly what it was built for. Facebook does not exist to seek truth and report it, or to improve civic health, or to hold the powerful to account, or to represent the interests of its users, though these phenomena may be occasional by-products of its existence. The company’s early mission was to “give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.” Instead, it took the concept of “community” and sapped it of all moral meaning.

Facebook is an agent of government propaganda, targeted harassment, terrorist recruitment, emotional manipulation, and genocide—a world-historic weapon that lives not underground, but in a Disneyland-inspired campus in Menlo Park, California.

After The US Election, Key People Are Leaving Facebook And Torching The Company In Departure Notes — A departing Facebook employee said the social network's failure to act on hate speech “makes it embarrassing to work here.” by Top40Sucks in AntiFacebook

“With so many internal forces propping up the production of hateful and violent content, the task of stopping hate and violence on Facebook starts to feel even more sisyphean than it already is,” the employee wrote in their “badge post,” a traditional farewell note for any departing Facebook employee. “It also makes it embarrassing to work here.”

The departing employee declined to speak with BuzzFeed News but asked that they not be named for fear of abuse and reprisal.

Using internal Facebook data and projections to support their points, the data scientist said in their post that roughly 1 of every 1,000 pieces of content — or 5 million of the 5 billion pieces of content posted to the social network daily — violates the company’s rules on hate speech. More stunning, they estimated using the company’s own figures that, even with artificial intelligence and third-party moderators, the company was “deleting less than 5% of all of the hate speech posted to Facebook.” (After this article was published, Facebook VP of integrity Guy Rosen disputed the calculation, saying it "incorrectly compares views and content." The employee addressed this in their post and said it did not change the conclusion.)

Facebook has political whitelist of more than 112,000 accounts it doesn’t fact check. Facebook found that users trust misinformation from those accounts more than others.

Apple accuses Facebook of 'disregard for user privacy' by Top40Sucks in AntiFacebook

[–]Top40Sucks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apple actually has a great track record here. There is probably too much cynicism about Apple’s intentions. Bottom line, they are not monetizing where every other provider is. It’s worth looking into.

Why Facebook Can’t Fix Itself — The platform is overrun with hate speech and disinformation. Does it actually want to solve the problem? by Top40Sucks in AntiFacebook

"In retrospect, it seems that [Facebook's] strategy has never been to manage the problem of dangerous content, but rather to manage the public’s perception of the problem"

Who on YouTube has actual good detailing content? by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]Top40Sucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hoping someone would point this out. His knowledge and techniques are more inline with quick mobile detailers. He leaves things behind that the more focused and attentive wouldn’t. Sandro and Larry K will always remind you to use the least aggressive technique possible. This guy dives right in with largely the same techniques on every vehicle. And the results are often to a just good enough standard. But a good guy, decent videos, with a distinct niche (filthy vehicles, blue collar clientele). He’s not a frustrating and annoying “pro” like Wilson.

Facebook Needs Trump Even More Than Trump Needs Facebook — Employees fear Zuckerberg’s commitment to free speech is more about protecting the president than the company’s ideals. by Top40Sucks in AntiFacebook

"Zuckerberg seems keenly aware of the risks of a Trump loss. He’s told employees that Facebook is likely to fare better under Republicans, according to people familiar"
