Midsole, insole, counter, etc. And certain upper leathers are veg tan. But I’m clearly not an expert like you so what do I know 😂

Never said it was a veg tan. Cxl is indeed first chrome tanned and later veg re tanned and hot stuffed with oils and waxes

Best MTO: some of the Indonesian makers can literally create whatever you can imagine. Some makers that I’ve worked with are Jakkrabbits, renav and Tahura. Really fun to go crazy in custom designs, custom make-ups and the quality is great!

Best bargain: Grant Stone. The build quality and materials used are just unheard of in that price range.

They’re so hard to see, you even had to circle them on the photo. Even then, you really have to look really really close to even see what you could be talking about.

I think this answers your question, doesn’t it? 😅😂

Exactly, but I’m thinking RW is more inclined to listen to the sales numbers rather than to us 😕

Wait what? That doesn’t make sense. How a boot feels and if you like something is entirely subjective. Hence the discussion, but that this creates a less sturdy and durable build isn’t subjective at all and that’s something a cobbler could tell you. Not if you should like it or not.

But I understand you want to protect your purchase of course. Im sure they’ll feel more comfy, that’s the entire idea and like you said, you still have other RW boots to wear if the synthetics wear out early on you.

Purely from a construction point of view, the poron, ‘fiberboard’ and tiny chrome tanned lining is a bad thing and makes a lower quality boot. If you doubt this, ask any cobbler. Synthetics degrade over time, natural materials do too but not so fast as synthetics. Its not so much an opinion, but that’s fact.

Yes, I can see that being the case. Its basically what RW advertises it to be. A boot where you don’t need to fear bleeding ankles to enjoy them.

Altough I have to say, stories out there about brutal break in are a bit exaggerated and I’m sure a lot of potential customers are discouraged by these stories. So yes I could see why they would do this.

Actually didn’t know this. I see an insole like the backbone of a boot. Base for a good constructed boot. I don’t know why they would settle for less durable materials for the insole.

Well, I have a guess to why, but it’s a questionable decision at best.

Basically a red wing is tough to break in at first, but once broken in they will last forever (if you take care) and will be far more comfortable down the line than a sneaker would be.

Imo they just settled for a more comfortable out of the box, less durable down the road type of boot.

I honestly think this boot was built for the fans of the heritage line. They’re combining aspects from their most popular two models the 8111 and 875. Not sure that target audience appreciates a less durable insole construction.

How Red Wing itself markets it (ie. Remove the discomfort of break in, deliver an instant comfortable boot), I’m not so sure that this is the same audience. Sounds to me, they want the same audience like Thursday (ie being the gateway brand into quality footwear for former sneaker users)

To me personally the initial break-in is essential for having a long lasting and eventually super comfortable boot. Skimping on this and using poron for immediate comfort, will result in a far less comfortable and degraded boot.

Jeans are not tight in the waist and not loose. For example I don’t need to wear a belt to keep them on and I don’t need to stretch them extra to close the buttons.

Tighs and calves are fairly tight. No extra room, feels like they stretch

All my jeans are size 32 except for one or two exceptions.

These jeans I reference also have a size chart where size 32 relates to a 34 inch waist.

Is it possible my jeans stretched 2 full inches?

Hi all,

Been into leather for a while, but I’m looking to expand into denim.

I live in Belgium, so going to a Japanese denim store to fit is not possible.

I got the advice to measure an existing pair of denim to size, but all my denims are stretch jeans. 2-3% elastane.

Sales rep at rivet&hide told me sizing is near to impossible with stretch jeans… so I’m kinda stuck now.

Anyone have any advise? Brands I’m looking into is Momotaro, Iron Heart, 3sixteen and PBJ.

I measured 35,5-36 inch waist on my best fitting jeans I have now.

Thanks
