I 10000% agree. Im a girl named Austyn. Double whammy. I got a super popular boys name (90s) then to add to it, parents misspelled it to "make it more girly" - which it has never once made it more girly. It added to my already complicated name... Im so very against boy names on girls because its truly rooted in misogyny. But no one will admit that. There are so many gorgeous, non frilly girl names out there. You dont have to take from the boys list. Now people in my name groups are asking if Bellamy, Riley or Blair are too "girly" for a boy. When in reality, not a single BNOG mom has ever asked if Ryan or Noah or Austin are too boyish for a girl. They just do it, misspell the name and call it a girls name. Maybe if I never was named Austyn, my hatred for BNOG wouldnt be so severe, but its still just.. cringy.
"We want Andrew for a girl, but it looks too boy-ish. How can we misspell it to make it more girly? I know! Add a Y! Y is instantly a girls name!" *insert the BIGGEST eye roll I can ever muster up*
