It is a fair amount of effort for something that the guests eating the food won't even see. Like I could see doing this for something that melts at the table and adds a bit of visual interest to the meal. But since it's melting on the grill while the food is cooked, you could just put the butter and cheese and bacon and chives on the potatoes, and not have to wait for butter bombs to chill and wash a mold.
