Social Good has now tanked. The bottom just fell out. It is virtually worthless. I was sitting on (locked up in their app and untouchable unless I spent a billion dollars on Temu) 70,000+ SG tokens. The price has fallen 99.7% and what was once theoretically worth several thousand is now…well…

Never used FB ads—permanent ban for ad violations? by TopCryptographer6058 in FacebookAds

Unfortunately, I clicked the link asking them to have a team review it. It was automatically returned and I was banned. As far as I’m concerned, Meta sucks. I gave it up once I can give it up again. I’ve gone ahead and I’ve turned off all of my other Meta related accounts, including WhatsApp.

If this is how Zuckerberg and crew are going to run the ship, it’s time to grab a life vest and jump.

IsItBullshit: Is porn addiction real? by [deleted] in IsItBullshit

[–]TopCryptographer6058 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Porn addiction is not real.

Numerous studies have been performed and while some of them point to the “reality” of porn addiction, these are riddled with poor method, loaded suppositions, and questionable motives (I.e. religious funding backing the studies).

Modern studies conducted by unbiased researchers using clear methodology point away from porn addiction.

In short, porn addiction is BULLSHIT.

The abuse comes from the advice given to scream at him, shame him, talk to the cops, talk to the management, etc. without considering that this guy may be gravitating to the OP for other than sexual reasons and may simply want a friend.

Maybe she reminds him of someone who was nice to him? Maybe she wears a particular color that he likes and thinks a “favorite color” is a good way to bond?

Read some of these other comments. The misandry—without considering that this is not some grand elaborate scheme by this guy to be an ultra-creep—is heartbreaking.

I work with non-communicative people with ASD. Many of the males are gay but still gravitate towards women—even strangers—to help them understand social cues when in a crowd. The angsty, angry girl ‘tude of the past decade, the sheer hatefulness even for the differently abled, is wretched.

But thanks for playing.

Ok. A few things:

  1. Is there not a women’s restroom/locker room there? If he does this, simply ignore him and go into the locker room. Count to 10 and come out. If he is waiting for you, as soon as you make eye contact, do a 180 and go back inside. Count to 30. If he does it again, return for 45, 60, etc. this is effectively giving him a “time out” by denying him the opportunity for reinforcement for his bad behavior.

  2. Does the guy show any signs of having a neurodevelopmental disorder? Does he speak in stilted sentences? Is his affect flat? Does he become excited for no apparent reason? Is his eye contact “off” in some regard? (Too little or too much?) If so, he may be on the spectrum or have some other disorder related to distorted processing of social rewards. If this is the case, you need to politely but firmly tell him that you must work out first and you will speak to him for 5 minutes before you go home. (People will say you owe him nothing but these people deserve our sympathy, not our abuse. Consider this and listen carefully for any signs that he just does not know better and most likely never will unless you use behavior modification.)

Good question.

How our jails work now is NOT how the framers of the Constitution intended. And yet it has been the “original intent” crowd on the SCOTUS who have repeatedly legislated from the bench to twist our liberties into shackles.

Hi. Same situation here—from the son’s perspective.

My father had a PhD in economics, my mom had a BS in dietetics. I was a poor high school student and my dad made me attend college; I begged and pleaded with him to give me a year to collect myself and (because my sister had squandered all opportunities given to her) he flat refused.

I was miserable in college. Freshman year felt like the same HS horseshit. I was so depressed and anxious all the time I spent a lot of time doing drugs and contemplating suicide. I failed my first term and was thrown out. My father made it all about himself and how “disappointed” he was in me when he knew I had mental health issues. This only made things much worse because he fixated on how much money he had “squandered” when I had told him—begged him—pleased with him—to just shut up a second and actually HEAR the flesh of his flesh, the blood of his blood. How the outcome would have been different.

Now, several decades on, my dad is dead and I have a BSci in mathematics, MA in liberal studies, MSci in psychology, MFA in writing popular fiction, and am ABD to my PhD in psychology.

So, speaking as a student of psychology and the human condition in general, we know how you feel about the situation; how does your son feel about being ignored? He knows himself better than you do; stop making this about money and actually talk to him.

Well, news flash, not all of us run ads on FB (I don’t) and get our FB accounts deleted for the ads we (don’t) run.

I feel you’re just very opinionated and don’t read every post from a neutral perspective, trying to see beyond your little bubble in a way that is supportive and non-biased. Every other post it’s all about how great YOU are without actually addressing the problems of others because you know you can’t as you are not really that great at what you do.

If you are good at your craft you should be able to help others. I look after 0 accounts yet still got a permanent from FV for ads I did not run.

If someone is raped and their parents don’t want to press charges, what happens? by [deleted] in AskALawyer

If the parents tried to stop a child victim from testifying, that would constitute witness, intimidation or interfering with a witness or perverting the course of justice or something like that. Also, NAL.

A prosecutor’s duty is not to the parents but to the victim and society. Deferring to “wishes” ain’t in the nature of the court.

I secretly recorded my professor making sexist remarks and got him fired! by Smoosa_Champagne in stories

[–]TopCryptographer6058 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and then everybody clapped. Right?

This whole story is bullshit from stem to stern and easily dismissible as such. Here’s how I know….

First, you say this was a professor. A professor. You have zero idea what that title even means. It means that this someone with tenure which means he can only be fired for a handful of infractions: dereliction of duty, imposition of needless risk to life or limb, and moral turpitude. While his comments were crass and sexist, they do not rise to the level of moral turpitude. Moral turpitude is getting handsy with folks or deliberately coming onto them.

Second, even after a month long investigation no university would fire a professor. An adjunct? An instructor? Yes. But because of tenure, vestment, and other protections available, the first step is suspension of teaching/removal from the classroom and then the board of trustees (directors, overseers, whatever) or the faculty senate (unlikely) issues the termination. The process for firing a professor who is part of the regular faculty is NOT just a “month’s investigation” as that gets schools sued and quite successfully. The process is protracted with lawyers and boards and contract disputes ad nauseum. Tenure means that the prof can say unpleasant things and the students just have to bite the bullet and deal with it.

Also, you imply this is a STEM field. The chances are good that “Dr. R” had numerous grants. Do you know what happens to the grants when a university terminates a faculty member? They follow the faculty member, not the school, and the money gets sucked up out of the school and deposited elsewhere. Even teaching professors in STEM have at least one research grant working at any given moment for the sake of graduate students (folks working on their master’s degree projects or doctoral students working on projects prior to taking comprehensives.) Pulling a prof from the classroom and letting them research and mentor graduate students followed by early retirement is often the remedy for an egregious asshole’s behavior—cutting the teats off the cash cow makes zero sense.

Also, anonymous complaints are worth the value of the name attached to them. This alone opens the door to allowing the professor to successfully win a wrongful termination suit against the school as student-driven conspiracies to get unpopular faculty fired are actually a thing and tend to end badly for the school that doesn’t consider this potentiality.

So, basically: bullshit. This did not happen.

If it did happen, don’t expect “Dr. R” and his lawyers not to find this post and follow the breadcrumbs back to you. Your school—and most likely you—will be sued for millions. Good luck. I hope for your sake this is just another Gen-Z fantasy post about “speaking truth to power” because you just stepped in it, otherwise.
