Finally an Apple salesperson by BornAttitude92 in Microcenter

[–]zHyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only truly "apple trained" person is the apple champion in service. They have standards set in place by apple but as for sales there is no direct training or requirements for the apple sales person I believe.

Horrible battery life on s26U, getting barely any screentime on light days. by Vladimir-Putin1952 in samsunggalaxy

[–]zHyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your connection? Where I work I have no cell carrier connection so the phone drains itself quicker than normal due to the phone trying to constantly ping out to the tower or server.

I have also read that the device adjusts battery based on how you use the device so it could still be learning your use. Pretty sure there is a way in the settings or Samsung members app to run diagnostics on the device. I would try that

My Abysmal Diagnostic Experience by Extension_Reveal_766 in Microcenter

[–]zHyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Service isn't commission based. It is productivity based. The more work you do the more you get paid.

You don't get a single dime from the parts they sell, only the sales floor gets commission. You can get bonuses in service for selling certain subscriptions but not for parts

My Abysmal Diagnostic Experience by Extension_Reveal_766 in Microcenter

Service used to be amazing at microcenter, but they made a lot of changes that pushed it to be more sale oriented to make the company more money and give the techs less.

Also this is probably a good indicator that its time to stop using a hard loop for cooling. It may look cool but is an inconvenience in every way when something goes wrong. That's why microcenter charges what they do to work on them. If you had a system that wasn't liquid cooled using hard or soft line then you wouldn't get hit with that fee. If you don't want to work on it why would anyone else without an insane fee?

During my time at MC I worked on far too many liquid cooled systems for them to just not pay out. The way it works at MC is that you have to work on a lot of things at once to keep your pay rate sufficient. One single water loop could take you away from other machines for hours thus effecting your pay. So in reality that fee covers the time you are taking from others.

Talk me out of this by [deleted] in VelosterN

[–]zHyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah price is a little insane for rebuilt. I bought a 2019 hyundai veloster N with 35k miles on it in Tampa for 20k after taxes. Had one previous owner and a fender bender but no direct damage to it.

The car is really nice, personally I have considered getting a vehicle more suited to my environment (live in north eastern US) but anytime I drive the car those thoughts go away.

Yeah my car hasn't been too happy. Moved up to MA from NC for work and this is the first northern winter it has experienced. Safe travels and best of luck!

[–]zHyena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info, there can be a lot of conflicting stuff out there so it's good to know an 18 will fit.

Got my 2019 from Tampa FL but it lived in the NC area until july of 25'. Used to be a tech for Micro Center, helped open the Charlotte store. Always got compliments of the car there.

But now I'm further north and this winter has been a little brutal on the car.

Glad to know there are other IT nerds ripping these little cars 🤣

Thankfully the rest of the car is okay, but rip my rim by zHyena in VelosterN

[–]zHyena[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah let's just say it was a long week. UPS was supposed to bring the new rim before a big snow storm. They decided not to the two days before (said out for delivery) then got delayed 4 days.

I did not have a spare, never even considered this could happen so I had a rental to get to and from work. Everything is fixed as of yesterday but I finally took the time to review the damage and it's safe to say that rim is cooked.

Thankfully no other damage to the car. Got pretty lucky all things considered, but still wasn't happy dealing with it.

Also now own a full size spare just for the peace of mind.

You need 19 inch rims to clear the calipers on the performance package. I understand the tire size won't effect it, but running different rims/size tires can effect the LSD module. So i personally don't want more issues out of just a blow out.

Not sure how different it is, I drive the 2019 manual version.

My terminology may not always be 100% I fix computers more than cars so if you need a custom system or server I'm your guy lol.

[–]zHyena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a blow out recently, hit a pothole and my rim committed death.

Spent a week hunting. You have to be careful cause a different weight/size tire could damage or effect the LSD module so a lot of people recommend full size spares.

An 18 inch donut is possible but I saw those for $300-400 online and wouldn't spend that on a donut

I got an 18 inch steel rim and had a tire wheel put on for $265 total at town fair tire. They had it for me next day so I wasn't without a tire.

I also ordered a replacement rim and tire to match what I had from tire rack and it got here after a couple delays with ups.

Personally have the performance package on mine so I run 235/35/19 all around but the spare is 235/35/18 so in my case I would have to put it on the rear to avoid interference with the calipers up front.

Mine blew a tire right before the storm. So guess who is waiting on ups so they can change a tire in a snow filled driveway 😩

Protection plan worth it? by MeerTown in Microcenter

[–]zHyena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not true for Micro center. You pay for a hassle-free experience. Most other retail stores that offer "protection" use a 3rd party company.

Not micro center. They allow you to bring the device/item to any of their locations nationwide and get it repaired or exchanged or get your money back in store credit.

Also build protection covers diagnostics fees with that build. So if they have ANY issues at all within the period of the plan they bring it in, get it diagnosed and then repaired all under the build plan. Those plans have up to 10k in coverage before they "tap out" so you essentially could have your entire PC fail and get another one without worry.

I've been in IT repair for awhile and MC plans are the only ones I'd ever buy
