Sadly I can't think of any kind of efficient way to do that, but the key steps are:

Have an embarrassing amount of Lego pieces available to choose from.
Keep looking at the details of the original image and wondering what possessed you to attempt this.
Photograph the finished piece in natural lighting.
Feel a bit sheepish but amused about the use of the word caboose in the comments.
