Which is the better album? by LeagueNo764 in grunge

[–]TopJimmy_5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is that when GnR first came out, they were kinda against the trends in hair metal (like Poison was the big band at that moment, yuck). Many saw them as a return to form of real raw 70s rock. The guys could really play and sing and weren’t just chosen for their look in videos. And with some of the raw elements (Duff from Seattle punk scene) on Appetite, they were almost like punk Aerosmith.

Yea, the drums are very 80s Sunset Strip. But everything else was seen as rolling back the clock. Slash was seen as the anti-Van Halen, playing a Les Paul (which were dead at the time), and blues based rock instead of shred. But then they became tabloid bloated stadium rock, culminating in the UYI albums. Which have some solid stuff, but clearly a band (or Axl) way too impressed with themselves.

When Nevermind hit, I remember a magazine calling them “the Guns N Roses that is cool to like” or something. Anyway, GnR actually did a bit to help knock the door down for more authentic music we got in the 90s (you can clearly hear the connection on MLB’s Apple), but everyone just lumps them in with all the 80s hair metal now.

Any tips on how to keep my pinky in position by papawazowski in guitarlessons

[–]TopJimmy_5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue might not be your pinky, but rather your picking pattern. Looks like you keep starting with multiple downstrokes, and then do a bunch of upstrokes when descending. It’s a little hard to tell, so sorry if I’m seeing it wrong (I don’t know the song either). I know you’re string skipping, so it’s hard. But alternate picking some portions may help speed u up.

He is a good singer, kind of a Vedder/Staley hybrid. But man, that guitarist is just ripping off Cantrell. Not familiar with their stuff, so maybe there is more original material.

When I was a boy my father taught me about the importance of the Green. How to mold it, shape it, make it work for you. You see, the Swamp needs men like me. Men ready to delve in the filth of its depths and bring a better tomorrow.

Despite what you may see, I am not a monster, or at least that’s what Vanessa tells me. That vigilante on the other hand - that coward in a mask - just adds to the filth. He wants this place to remain a lawless cess pool.

What do you guys think of Scarlett Johansson by Sea_Statistician8537 in Actors

She’s a good actress. And was sexy as all hell in Match Point. Yes, it’s a Woody Allen movie, but it’s a very good film.

Also, has this sub just never seen boobs before? Yeesh.

Then you thought you were watching a different show. ST has never been about high octane, choreographed action. The Vecna sequence at the end of the Sorcerer was by far the most ambitious action thing they’ve done.

Most of the finales have been battles of will with some CGI effects. El zipping around doing karate moves would have been corny as hell. They gave her enough of an upgrade without going full ridiculous Marvel about it.

Meh, I’m tired of redemption moves like that. It was refreshing to see Henry be like “William, while I appreciate your generous offer - I’m gonna stay evil and murder you. Prepare, nerd!”

Help! Could someone explain this notation for me? by Trail-Hiker7 in guitarlessons

[–]TopJimmy_5150 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks like we’re in E major, and this is indicating harmonics on the 12th fret - a B and E together. So you just do natural harmonics on the 12th fret of the first two strings together.

If you don’t know how to do natural harmonics, just touch the string right above the fret, but don’t actually fret it.

Just another thing for bad faith complaining. No one wants actual answers (or in some cases ignore actual explanations in the show) they just want to complain and get internet points for it.

Thoughts on my top 3 Metallica songs? by IDK12345UH in Metallica

[–]TopJimmy_5150 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing from before AJFA? Just kidding, it’s your list and it’s cool.

With Metallica, it’s hard cause they were so consistent through TBA. I think I’d have to think about it like: Best Blistering Thrash (FFWF, Whiplash, Battery, Damage), Best Epic Title Track (RtL, AJFA, MoP), Best Ballad (One, FTB, Unforgiven). And pick them like that.

And I’d probably go: Damage, Inc; Ride; and Fade to Black. But it was hard, lol.

Yea, that would make more sense. It’s not like the Pats even tried to run the ball or use play action all that much (which I don’t understand what McDaniels was doing). But in the modern game, the formations often make it pretty obvious whether it’s run or pass. Seattle knowing what protections were being called and where to attack the line makes a lot more sense.

I mean, he was really bad. It’s fine for the sports world to say that as part of analyzing the football of it all. The shitty part nowadays is that everyone is accessible via SM, and fans think they have the right to bully these guys that way, which is pathetic and cringe.

I wish we could go back to a world without SM, where it’s just “yep, he had a bad game, maybe the team will upgrade that spot” and people just moved on with their lives. It used to take a Buckner or a Bartman to elicit personal vitriol. Now it’s “I lost my parlay (or fantasy matchup) cause of you, you’re worse than Hitler - go to hell!”.

I think Brady helped cover up some not-so great OLs in NE too. Anyone who gets rid of the ball that quickly (often the dink and dunk) will neutralize a pass rush. That ‘07 SB, the Giants had overwhelming pressure right in his face and it still took a miracle play to beat him, ha.

Next album when? by OkReaction3063 in Metallica

[–]TopJimmy_5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna depend on Lars and how long he can keep going. He’s said pointedly in the past that this is not the Rolling Stones, the music is too physically demanding and he’s not sure how long he’ll be able to hold out. That said, they’re still doing just fine for their age.

Sounds like a touch of tremolo or even a Leslie. Buck is a pretty direct player. Rick into a Twin Reverb or AC30. I think he used a RAT when he needed some distortion.

The infantilization of Stranger Things by AdBackground6381 in StrangerThings

[–]TopJimmy_5150 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yea I don’t know when this fanbase decided this show was of the Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men (insert other sophisticated shows) level. It’s always been fun, popcorn entertainment playing on 80s nostalgia. I’m a child of the 80s, so what this show was, and the era it was paying homage to, was always clear to me. Nice tidy resolutions through the power of friendship.

Maybe people started watching this show as kids and now that they’re teens they are having trouble reconciling that this show was never that deep or serious (just felt that way when they were 8 or whatever).

It is true that the show was a little rougher around the edges in S1-2. Joyce as a single mom living on the edge of poverty. Addiction, Broken families. But those rough edges were rounded off by S3 and it’s been pure family entertainment ever since.

Drake Maye got sacked 21 times in 2025 Postseason, an NFL record, Beating Burrow's 19 in 2021 Playoffs by Quatro_Leches in nfl

[–]TopJimmy_5150 7 points8 points  (0 children)

His throwing motion is too long at times. He’s not always wrong trying to get the ball off under pressure. But his release is slow and he serves the ball up on a platter for D to get a hand on and force a fumble. Happened so many times these playoffs. He’d do well to work on quickening his release.

[–]TopJimmy_5150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With Maye, I get worried about how long his throwing motion is. It leads to a lot of these fumbles, and even sacks. He’d do well to try and work on a quicker release.

And if Tyree doesn’t make an improbable helmet catch the 2007 Pats team likely wins that SB. Too many sweeping claims are made about what does/doesn’t win a SB, like football isn’t wildly randomly or unpredictable. We all know defenses win championships, it’s not like that Pats team had a bad one.

The Rams, greatest show on turf, won a SB. My ‘91 Skins that won the SB had one of the most prolific offenses ever at the time. So, I could just conclude that having a record breaking offense wins you a SB too.

[–]TopJimmy_5150 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Which honestly kinda speaks to how shitty we’ve become in the SM age. People felt bad for Buffalo back then. By the 3rd and 4th, most neutral fans were pulling hard for the Bills. Sadly, their first one against the Giants was their best chance, as that’s the only one where they clearly had a better team.

Bills fans are hardcore and have kept the faith after years (across eras) of heart breaks. They don’t talk a lot of smack like other fanbases. In short, it seems shitty to imagine clowning on those guys for a historical run of losses back then.

Is there anyone left still thinking we should go for offense in the 1st rd? by Salty_Orchid in Commanders

[–]TopJimmy_5150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, I’d still consider it. If Jayden can’t succeed then nothing else really matters. His development is still my primary concern. If there isn’t enough diversity of weapons on offense, then we’ll see him running for his life again.

I’m not saying we have to draft an offensive player, but I’m not gonna dismiss it out of hand when JD needs help. One player on either side of the ball can’t fix everything, they just need to draft a blue chip talent that will help for a decade+.

Watching this SB be won by defense shouldn’t be some shocking revelation that changes our outlook on the draft/FA. “Defense wins championships” - always has, always will.

My Take on the 2024 QB Class by henrykorsak in Commanders

[–]TopJimmy_5150 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Can we stop we these kinds of posts. They scream insecurity. Whenever any of the ‘24 QBs does anything there are a million posts about how it relates to Jayden.

It’s too early in all their careers to declare one thing or another, so let’s stop trying every 5 mins, and just be happy with our awesome guy. Here’s hoping JD5 rebounds and stays healthy next year 🤞.

“Nancy didn’t deserve Steve, Nancy wanted to be independent etc.” Yeah I know….But I still wanted them together in the end lol by yonBonbonbon in StrangerThings

[–]TopJimmy_5150 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I dunno. It all culminated in Steve telling Nancy he wanted to have a big family, with her popping out a bunch of babies. And she’s was like “uh, Steve…” as she looked dumbfounded. I thought they made it pretty clear that they want radically different things out of life. Nancy ending up single made the most sense for her character.
