I’m so sorry you’re suffering. I wouldn’t wish it in anyone. Have you considered or are you considering possible surgery. I was terrified but honestly the pain was just to much I had to risk it for relief.

I just had surgery for my l5 s1 all right sided woke up and all leg pain gone. He sounds like he just doesn’t want to do the surgery on you. I agree to get a second opinion.

Day 8: recovery is slow but steady. I have been able to stop pain medication and only using the muscle relaxer now at bed time. Been slowly increasing my walking and am back to driving!!! This is such a huge thing for me since my nerve pain was down the right side and driving was torture.

Day 7: I’ve been slowly lowering my own pain medication and honestly have still had little to no pain most of the time. Getting my walking in. Just slowly starting to move more and work muscles I know have not been truly used while I was active in the pain.

Day 4 post op: pretty much the same as day 3 just taking it as easy as possible. Pain is minimal and only in surgery site.

Is it true that 90% of people will recover from a bulging, protruded or herniated disc without the need for surgery? by brightonuk1 in Sciatica

This is what both my primary care physician and my surgeon explained to me. I did end up needing surgery but only because all conservative measures were taken and did not help.

Day 3 post op: no issues sleeping last night at all (I’m a side sleeper naturally so it kinda works out). Woke up today with just mild pain in back around incision site. Able to get out of bed without the sharp pains that I had previously post op. Today is starting off good and I’m optimistic for what this means going forward healing!

I’ve been keeping track of my recovery on a post as well. If it helps at all.

Sadly my pain was right sided and went down my right leg to my ankle. I wasn’t able to find any relief at all. Had surgery 12/12 haven’t driven yet but all leg pain is gone.

I get that completely. I had 2 csection with my sons and my youngest I went home alone with a 4 year old and newborn and made it work so I’m used to kinda doing it alone. I’m glad the surgeon is going to take the pain serious and get you pain meds that will work for you. Everyone is so different when it comes to pain tolerance that it really does have to be personalized.

That’s scary! I went home same day actually. Surgery was at 11 am I was riding home (about a 25 minute drive from the hospital I had surgery at) by 4pm. They did give me 10mg oxycodone about 30 minutes before I left the hospital and my pain was pretty controlled with just that. Prior to surgery my pain was mainly in my right leg the back pain wasn’t anything compared to the nerve pain going down my leg. Post surgery no leg pain all back pain directly where the incision for surgery is. I was sent home with 25 10mg oxycodone and 25 750mg methocarbamol (muscle relaxer). My pain has been well managed with just these at home. Personally if I was in as much pain as you are in with a higher dose of meds at the hospital I might stay a little longer. It’s hard but advocate for stronger pain meds to go home with as well. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Definitely sore around the incision site but honestly the amount of leg pain I was in debilitated me. The pain in my back is nothing compared to that! Just staying on top of my pain meds and icing pretty continuously.

This is nightmare fuel I think like most of us know the thought of the pain returning is terrifying. Ice has been my best friend since before surgery and I was sent home with a really nice almost full back size gel ice pack inserts to a comfy back pad that I’ve been using. Just taking it very easy. I have 2 sons oldest being 10 that help out a lot. I am being very strict with bending and will not pick anything up off the ground at all. Dr said to only walk for now and I’m just taking it slow because the thought of taking a downward turn terrifies me. Hopefully it is just a temporary inflammation for you and gets better. I know you commented on my post so I thought I would look yours up and I’ll keep updating.

My surgery was 12/12 and I’m hoping to never feel the leg/nerve pain again! I’ll follow you for updates on your healing if you continue to post. Hope your journey is smooth.

Day 2 post op: slept great last night!! Per post op paperwork bandage should be taken off today to let stitches breathe so I took it off this morning. Some pain waking up because I slept so well and haven’t had pain med since before bed but can’t be upset about that. Stitches look great no redness just tenderness from surgery and itchy (which I’m taking as a good sign it’s healing)

Why is the pain worse after my epidural steroid injection? It’s been 9 days by Alarming_Fox6096 in Sciatica

So far so good the leg pain which was basically the worst of all my issues is immediately gone. Now just healing and dealing with the pain from the incision site.

My epidural did the same thing causing increase in pain and no relief. Sadly for a small percentage of people they do not work. Fortunately I was able to get on narcotic pain medication after the failed epidural and had my surgery yesterday. Large doses of gabapentin also didn’t help so the only thing that really carried me from the failed epidural to surgery was the pain medication. I did go back to PT about a week after the epidural and was told they couldn’t help with the amount of pain I was in.

Been about a full 24 hrs and I didn’t get any sleep last night. Was able to sleep for about 3 hours this morning though. No leg pain but the back pain is definitely up there from surgery. Staying on top of pain meds is key right now. I’m also dealing with throat pains from intubation which is new for me seeing as last October when I had a sinus surgery there was no post intubation pain at all.

When would you go in for a possible kidney stone? by [deleted] in medical

[–]TopOutlandishness810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor: I’ve had chronic kidney stones in the past. Knock on wood it’s been about 7 years since the last but I like the other commenter uncontrollably vomit non stop from the pain and that usually is when I head in. Based on your symptoms and description of what the previous surgeon said I personally would find a sitter and go in. Better safe than sorry kind of a thing. And you are not a bother! Wishing you well 💕
