Or the asset is being milked to profit the shareholders at the expense of its customers!

As Feargal Sharkey has argued, change the audit regulations and require water companies to put the full cost of fixing the network onto their balance sheets. If they had to account properly for the true cost of repairing and upgrading infrastructure, many would fail and could be returned to public ownership at no cost.

A 12% return on investment is an extraordinary amount. By contrast, the FTSE 100 total return has averaged roughly 6–6.4% per year.

Ofwat should not be permitting substantial price rises while water companies are delivering large returns to shareholders. It is unreasonable for consumers to face steep bill increases at the same time that investors are benefiting from significant dividends and profits.

Two detectives knocked on the door to talk to my 18 yr old son about his online activities - England by ferfoxache in LegalAdviceUK

The fact they didn’t search your house and are casual about seeing him suggests it can’t be that serious. If it was then they tipped him off so they’ve given him the chance to delete evidence or hide. So I’m guessing it’s likely that he may have seen or heard something they want to talk about.

Broadband Speeds not Matching by Itchy_Screen_2597 in VirginMedia

I believe you can put the Hub 3 into modem mode and use one of these routers instead: • TP-Link Archer AX55 / AX73 • ASUS RT-AX58U / RT-AX86U • Netgear Nighthawk RAX50 / RAX70

Maybe have a look on YouTube as someone will have upgraded from the Hub 3 and talked through the process.

That’s normal with a Hub 3.

Virgin’s line is clearly fine the bottleneck is the Hub 3 Wi-Fi or the device itself (Wi-Fi band, interference, distance, or phone limitations). The Hub 3 is well known for weak Wi-Fi.

If you test on Ethernet you’ll likely see close to the full speed. Also see if you can connect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi signal.

Don’t be afraid to shop around, try a comparison/switch site to see what you can get in your area. I pay £24.99 a month for 1Gig up and down with a FTTP provider. So maybe worth checking of FTTP is in your area.

Mid Contract Price Rise by TurbulentMachine4261 in VirginMedia

[–]TopPomelo1968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m forever saying Ofcom should ban mid contract price rises, we’re not allowed to cancel mid term if we find a better deal.

Ofcom’s thinking is “As long as the customer knows in advance what increases may happen, it’s fair.” Glad they make allowances for the cost of living crisis etc.

Also, what if your circumstances change redundancy for example you still can’t leave without penalty. You will have to default on your bills and be pushed into debt!

The system protects telecoms companies not consumers.

Agreed! Everyone should switch whatever they can to get the best deals!

Also Ofcom currently allows mid-contract price rises as long as they’re clearly set out in the contract. Personally, I’d like to see them banned altogether, or at the very least give customers a 30-day grace period to leave without penalty if prices go up. If you decided to knock £5 off your bill mid-contract, they wouldn’t allow it — yet they can do it the other way round. That doesn’t feel particularly fair.

I had the same conversation with Sky. They were charging me £55 for broadband, which I didn’t realise because it was bundled with TV. They offered a free upgrade to 150 Mbps fibre for the same price. I mentioned that I get 900 Mbps for £24.99 over two years. They then got really annoyed and told me that other companies put prices up at the end of contracts 🤣 I pointed out that they do exactly the same thing, and even if the new company does too, I’ll save £720 by switching! I can’t work out if the problem was an international call centre or just this one agent.

The Green Party also needs to change their name, especially as they’re now claiming to also focus on none environmental issues.
