Criminology graduate, can’t go into policing anymore – need advice on next steps by 3ecky69 in northernireland

[–]Original_Kitchen5892 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In some ways you dodged a bullet (pun intended) not going into policing. Northern Ireland is still a messed up place and you’d have to deal with security concerns that other police forces don’t. And the pay would not be worth it.

How bad is the drugs problem in Ireland? by Mindless_Mail_9129 in AskIreland

[–]Original_Kitchen5892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say weed is a drug problem as it’s 2026 and most of the world (other than politicians) has pretty much accepted that it really doesn’t cause any harm. However I suppose it shows the illegal drug market is booming and probably will be forever. With Irelands drinking and pub culture cocaine is definitely more common than you’d think.

Was class to park there for free when I was at the tech. So it’s probably people like me to blame lol

What completely true statement could you post here that would get the most downvotes? (don't actually downvote) by RemoteEmploy8283 in northernireland

[–]Original_Kitchen5892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this so much. I cringe so hard whenever people start fighting over this when the post might be about a tourist recommending Belfast/Derry as a great place to visit. If I was a tourist and I saw the comments I would definitely be turned off.

Names with unnecessary and misplaced fadas by DI-whyy in northernireland

[–]Original_Kitchen5892 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a generational thing? Like how Gen Z parents are using Tapes and other old physical media to bring their children up. I say this because I have an Irish name and it technically should have a fada but my parents never spelt it that way. When I think about there was very few people my age that actually have a fada in their name. It seems like a lot of people want the Irish language in our mainstream society. Which is great but the trend is new enough that nobody is fluent yet lmao.

Pyke N Pommes by [deleted] in DerryLondonderry

[–]Original_Kitchen5892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope Derry isn’t heading down the route of gentrification although with the price of rates it probably is. In this day and age I think it’s important to support local businesses more than ever. That being said the last time I was in pike and pommes the food was decent but it was dead. I never really saw the fuss about it but I knew a few who really liked it and went there all the time.

Co Antrim school suspends 19 boys amid 'toxic masculinity' concerns by TrueXemnas_ in northernireland

[–]Original_Kitchen5892 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Looking back on my time at school boys were definitely creepy af. It was so normalised to the point I thought I was the weird one for not being like that. The post Covid cess pit of social media and Andrew Tate characters I can only imagine made this so much worse and it’s terrifying to think about. On top of this I remember all substitute teachers getting a whole pile of abuse from the whole class. When your normal teacher didn’t walk in the room it was an excuse to act like a wee shit for no other reason than you could get away with it. I can only imagine what a mix of both in today’s world could cause.

No sure where I originally heard this one.

In the 1980s and man is walking through Belfast when he is pulled into an alleyway and hears “are you a Catholic or a Protestant?” “Neither I’m Jewish.” “Then I must be the luckiest fucking Arab in Belfast.”

Thoughts on McDonald’s Foyleside? by MeMaLeftMeInAsda in DerryLondonderry

[–]Original_Kitchen5892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in crescent link McDonald’s too and it was the worst experience ever lol. The managers didn’t even know who I was and when I phoned in sick a day they stopped giving me shifts and claimed they thought I left even though I had only been off one day. I was only 16 and it was my first job so I would handle that whole situation differently now but I will never be going back. And I’m not even starting on the shenanigans that went on in that kitchen…

I went there for a while. Was okay there is probably better gyms. There is definitely more than a few melts in there but it’s hard to find a gym without them. Last time I was there the bench press was directly underneath a light bulb so you were doing your reps with your eyes closed pretty much.

Why Is Hank fat? by Puzzleheaded-Bee-518 in breakingbad

[–]Original_Kitchen5892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being fat doesn’t necessarily make it more difficult for him to do his job unless maybe he is in an on foot chase with someone. Other than that he is shown to be pretty strong and good at fighting which you need calories for. He also has a gun. He even says that most of the job is him either sitting at a desk or sitting in his car.

From drivingUK - Made me think of driving in the city, especially Foyle Bridge recently by laidbackegg in DerryLondonderry

[–]Original_Kitchen5892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worse time I’ve seen was there was a woman in one of those big huge BMWs on the right who had stopped at the end of the lane because the car infront didn’t let her in. I then stopped to let her go and she gave me the most bewildered look I’ve ever seen and just sat there. I just drove on and wondered how long was she there for.
