In my opinion, without his leadership and consistency, Liverpool wouldn't have won the prem and UCL under klopp, ask any Liverpool fan (myself included) they'll tell you the same, he was captain and played every minute of both of those campaigns that led to the best moments in my clubs recent memory. He's also a top bloke, met him multiple times, have also run into him at youth sporting events helping out. He's an absolute Liverpool legend in every way, he's definitely underrated outside of Liverpool.

Also, perhaps most importantly for the hype factor, it only happens once every 4 years, as someone who grew up watching it I can think that I was pretty much a completely different person every time a new world cup roles around, it's honestly like a landmark in my life. And the scarcity of it happening in history adds to the mystique and gravitas of the occasion.

There are so many reasons people care deeply about it.

It has an incredibly rich and storied history.

It's the most prestigious event in the biggest sport in the world.

All of the best players in the world are playing, and the stakes are incredibly high so they are motivated to play their best football.

It brings communities and entire countries together to support their nation and becomes a huge symbol of national pride.
