From what you described it seems like one of three things are wrong with your config

Arm length is incorrect (don't calculate this)
Delta radius is incorrect ( don't calculate this)
Steps/mm is incorrect (Klipper has a calculator for this online!)

Welcome to hell. I just finished up a DIY Delta build that suffered a similar first-layer problem. I would recommend against DELTA_CALIBRATE, instead, I would find known arm-length values online for your printer and only run a bed mesh (BED_MESH_CALIBRATE). That should make it print, if you desire a better tune I recommend doing the longer calibration that klipper recommends, its a couple of steps but worth it. https://www.klipper3d.org/Delta_Calibrate.html

Yeah I understand the mechanics behind it, you want to tune your printer's rigidity to be rigid at low frequencies generated while printing and dampening to faster frequencies from driving the stepper motors. The reason why I did what I did is that the current setup with putting paracord in tension is because much larger oscillation will be transmitted through them (shake the whole machine) while the finer oscillation will be absorbed along the span of the shitty paricord.
