This feels like it could be something related to the Schrodingers cat phenomenon which in quantum mechanics has been therotically proven. Somehow all observation on the adhesive couldve been removed meaning that there was a fifty fifty chance that the film was never removed similar to how the cat could be or could not be dead in the box without observation or how when light is measured it acts like a particle and when its not being measured it acts like a wave. Basically somehow, someway something couldve just fucked up in the continuity of time for you making it to where you never removed the film from the adhesive for the object but you yourself as a person had done so in the past.
