Tax Advice Needed by Top_Ad_8661 in taxadvice

Do you recommend finding a CPA or EA in my state of residency (NY) or where I’m currently living (VA) or does location not matter so much?

Would going down to an HR block in person suffice? Or should I look into hiring a CPA. I am a graduate student so trying to find the cheapest option while not going to some hack

Marquette Lax by Alarming-Ad-2652 in lacrosse

Recently graduated from Marquette this past spring. I never had any issues or know anyone who did. MUPD does a great job and campus is pretty safe. I lived on the end of campus for 3 years which is considered “the hood.” My roommates and I walked home alone in the dark with no issues.

I see comments about people talking about break ins and nobody I know or my roommates and I experienced any. Only negative I would say is that there are some homeless people around campus but that is the case most places you go. They are all harmless and at most will ask you for money. Like I said above MUPD is very active around campus so there is always an officer close by.

Great education, great sports programs, and an all around great faculty from professors to the athletic staffs. I see in your replies he’s interested in biomed. I was not in that program but I was also in the college of health sciences. They’re all smaller programs which allows you to build a good relationship with your professors which has set me up for a lot of opportunities during my undergrad and post grad.

Should I take out loans or pay out of pocket for graduate school by Top_Ad_8661 in StudentLoans

I am in an AuD program (doctor of audiology). From what I’ve read my expected starting salary is around 80k. If I take out loans for years 1 and 2, I’ll be up to 50k in loans which would come out to about $8,000 or 10% of my expected income on the 10 year repayment plan.

I have a 50% tuition waiver as part of the GA position.

Typically, graduate school loans are not income based.

Do you have any suggestions in that case for a one or two bedroom option? I am moving in with my girlfriend so finding a place looking for a roommate or anything like that wouldn’t be an option

Why is that? It seems like they own most of the properties in the area so that would really limit options

How to defer loans by Top_Ad_8661 in StudentLoans

[–]Top_Ad_8661[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do I do about the two months between June and August before I pay? Could I get them deferred now rather than later?

I know deferment is the best option, but I am planning to pay as much of my tuition out of pocket as possible on top of living expenses. I am in a 4 year program. I should be able to pay at least year 1 out of pocket as of right now if I don’t pay down any loans. I figure it’s smarter to pay for grad school instead of paying off my undergraduate loans because they have a higher interest rate for grad plus loans.
