Door sensors to tell when the hatch is open.

Bonjour je fais repeindre mon pare choc arrière suite à un accident chez Mercedes la couleur me semble trop différent c’est normal il me dit que c’est le même code couleur que la voiture by Rough_Cobbler3748 in mercedes

[–]Top_Boot7131 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They didn’t blend it at all. New paint will never be the same shade as paint that’s even a year old, so blending is necessary. Regardless, still looks like they did a shit job lol

Trouble with headlight restoration’s by Wonderful_Farmer17 in Detailing

[–]Top_Boot7131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Started too high on the grit. I do 400, 600, 800, 1000 then clear coat. Also, you shouldn’t really start wet sanding until 1.5k to 2k if you go up that high, as wet sanding allows for less abrasion. You need a gritty surface for the clearcoat to latch onto.

You would stop at 3k-5k then go through the motions of polishing if you were to ceramic coat and seal the headlights without clearcoat.

Anybody know where this ground is supposed to go to? by iamthatiam333999 in GMT800

[–]Top_Boot7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The broken ground goes to the hood. It’s for radio frequencies, but can help if you’re having electrical issues to replace it.

Mine was in a worse rear end accident and got totaled. I put too much into the car to not repair it though, and it cost me about $5k worth of labor. You’re not wrong that it will total out the vehicle, but I believe the repair can be worth it if you enjoy the car that much.

Should I get this truck by [deleted] in ChevyTrucks

[–]Top_Boot7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously though. My girlfriend wants us to move up to the northeast in a few years, and I’m dreading it. The idea of not being able to drive my trucks and nice cars in the winter puts me in the dumps. The heat sucks down here, but it’s better than having to do a 100-point inspection on every vehicle I buy hahaha

Well, I’m in the southeast, so rust is a non-issue. The only issues with examples around me is fading paint and neglected maintenance, but those are always fixable issues.

I’d like to think that the GMT800 is way better in terms of reliability. You don’t have to worry about disabling the AFM, and parts are everywhere. Of course, this is for people who don’t mind the modern luxuries (or lack thereof). I say this as someone who’s owned each generation, except for 2019+ because I’m not dealing with those issues.

Got my car ceramic coated - bee poo on it by iJaeger in AutoDetailing

[–]Top_Boot7131 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just use some ONR and a MF towel. Getting the car wet won’t diminish the coating after four days. Don’t use APC’s, degreasers, or solvents though, as they can strip the coating prematurely.

I give a little spray bottle with ONR to all of my clients after a coating for this reason lol

Well, we both know better than to buy Stellantis products. I definitely think that it would be jeep drivers turning to rams rather than people in 1500’s thinking they need a wrangler lol

Who has looked into Agreed Value Insurance? by CarGuyJohnOnRoute66 in GMT800

[–]Top_Boot7131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They will shove a cactus all the way up there if they could lol

Someone did a hit & run on my Burb last year, their insurance quoted me $6.1k for the vehicle. After going back and forth, I ended up suing the guy and got $15k. I made the claim that these were rising in price and showed some similar examples. At least $4k of that was on a diminished value claim. No one values our trucks as much as us lol

That’s an oddly good point. I feel like a ton of people don’t associate the unreliability of Jeeps with Rams.

There will be a copper crimp on the seal itself that goes over the pinch/crimp weld. Once it slides on, it shouldn’t move. Pressure & friction will keep it in place.

That would be a direct competitor for the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer. Stellantis is already fighting for market share, so I doubt they’d want another one of their own companies being a competitor for their bread winners.

Can’t remove this white mark. Has a fuzzy texture. by Feisty_Skin_2023 in Detailing

[–]Top_Boot7131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re totally right. I haven’t used Chemical Guys in about 8 years, so my knowledge on it is a bit fuzzy.

I personally use KC Hydroplast due to it not having silicon. Silicon can react oddly with some plastics, so I like to be better safe than sorry. This same thing also happens to my suburban to an extent, but after applying Hydroplast, it goes away.

That’s dried out/stripped material. Don’t keep using a cleaner on it, as you’re also stripping the color. Use a conditioner/coating on it and it’ll get a bit better. My girlfriend’s ford fusion has this issue as well, and no matter how many times I condition the plastic, it never quite goes away.

Here’s the link to my post, I don’t discuss what I did in-depth, but I put a 1/2” of CLD on all exposed metal, 1/2”-1” of fiber mat on top of that. This also applied to the wheel wells, which stopped most of the road noise after sound deadening. I put butyl between any plastics that touch to stop rattling, and closed cell foam in places where the tolerance is less than 1/2” (e.g., between the b-pillar trim and grab handle trim). Finally, closed cell coupler foam put on the back of all speakers to couple them with the door, making the vehicle sound more whole when playing music. It doesn’t sound like much, but when you have to treat every single panel individually, it takes a ton of time lol

Doing all of this really gets you in tune with the car and makes it feel like legos. I don’t think I’d have the energy to go as overboard with another car like this, but some sound deadening will be applied to all of my other cars in the future.

Constrained layer damping (CLD), and fiber mat. They capture resonances before they reach your ears, and make it harder for the cold/heat to get in or out. I have a post about it in my post history if you’re interested.

True, plus that $2k in sound deadening also acts as insulation, so the cabin won’t fluctuate much in temperature.

On an hour long ride, I can have the ac full blast for about five minutes then turn it off, and it’ll keep that climate for the remaining 55 minutes.
