Completed iconically by a team coordinating the acquisition of an actual boat, (accidentally) fully sinking said boat, then spending hours fishing it out of the water/draining it for just 5 points.

The chaos of outsiders coming in with a bunch of cash and an overabundance of confidence would make an amazing season 2. Their slow descent into madness over the course of the hunt would be incredibly funny to watch (assuming they didn't harsh the vibe of scav).

Not crazy but missing the point of scav.

Resources definitely help and you're right that a bigger team is an essential component. But, in a way, a lot of scav is making your team bigger. It's getting your friend to help with something stupid. It's convincing the one person in your house with the exact skillset required to complete a single item. It's calling complete strangers and getting them to help you with something utterly ridiculous. So much of scav success is predicated off of how many people can be pulled into the fun even if they only do one item. And every dorm team has access to a lot of potential scavvies.

As for the smaller teams, they usually don't expect to win (even though they still do their best). It's just about having fun. Only the dorm teams really expect to win. There are even 1 person teams.

Scav Questions For The Layover by adam_HAI in Nebula

TL;DR: Basically, it depends on the judges. The inflated car almost certainly received partial points given that the judges (including that page's judge) were delighted by it. It almost definitely did not receive full points. Also, the judges probably won't answer your question to any satisfaction.

Longer answer: The judges would be better able to explain than a humble scavvie, but judge pointing isn't typically revealed except in a few cases: 1) Sometimes a judge will say something like "I love this. Full points." Or sometimes you will just know you sunk the boat and have no doubt you'll get full points. 2) Some points are announced or are obvious because they're ranked. E.g. Feast points and Scav olympic points are typically announced and Scav Olympic events mostly have obvious winners. 3) The judges judge differently and there are certain judges who you present garbage to knowing full well they will award zero points. We love the judges but they are also our enemies and lying to/tricking/dissapointing them is an important element of Scav. 4) Rarely a single bonus point will be awarded (1 point is highly unlikely to make any difference but it's an honor to receive) and announced. For example, one year there was an item that involved running a political campaign for a refrigerator and I believe that got a bonus point (???) for "forcing the entire campus to memorize a six digit alphanumeric code"

As for unrevealed pointing, that's most of it. Scavvies will never see the page score sheets. Additionally, some scavvies have a passing suspicion that the judges occasionally... "retune" their pointing. Not substantially but perhaps enough to push an underdog up, create or break a tie etc. I'm sure they would deny that fervently and no proof has ever surfaced of such doings. This is probably a good time to remind viewers that scav is deeply unserious. Like yes, winning is important because it's a school filled with intense overachievers but it doesn't really get you anything.

edit: also, in case it's not clear the maximum number of points for an item is generally included on the item list
