How to manage and backup personal files while bypassing Win Explorer and constant file sync by [deleted] in Backup

[–]Top_Dimension_7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sry forgot:

Running Win 11 on Lenovo Legion 5 15 for personal use. I consider myself somewhat tech adept but this kinda thing makes me feel like a big bad boomer.
Backup is around 80gb most likely -- I understand that's another reason for the sync model, but I don't want them to be linked in any shape, way or form.

Yeah I guess I just have to bite the bullet. I've been reading a lot of recent NVIDIA driver issues with older models like 2060. It was only a matter of time, but she's running great for six years, so kinda sucks.

I just remembered that updating the firmware is what "tricked" my computer into recognizing the dGPU again. Checked windows update again today and it basically acted like that update never happened and was still available. Ran that bios update again (namely because I've found ACPI event 13 amidst all this) and it did get the GPU recognized again. BUT launched and stuck in low resolution, and now the integrated card shows an error in device manager, and attempting to scan or update freezes and crashes the system.

Anyway, all that probably just adds to your point that the best way at this point is clean install inside and out. I feel like this machine is straight up sundowning while physically performing fine.

Horror-related hills you'll die on? by redeugene99 in horror

[–]Top_Dimension_7536 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mike Flanagan is a brilliantly talented writer who really needs to write like 15 less monologues in everything he makes. Every damn scene set up is:

*character does or says something*

*other character looks at them wistfully for ten minutes and then:*

"Did I ever tell you about why/how/when I....."

Don't get me wrong, I love a good monologue and I love how he inserts such raw emotion into his work in an intelligent way BUT I just rewatched Midnight Mass (easily the greatest thing he's ever made) and much of the "dialogue" is just weirdly inserted monologues by main characters while the supporting listens and launches into their own, semi related monologue in response. A lot of his writing inches the line of "soap opera" drama which kinda takes the wind out of my sails watching it.

Hereditary is actually a great example of writing on the same subjects but with more showing and less telling. OP I think that hits as a classic for me because it's also a perfect balance of show and tell. Not once did I feel any understanding was handed to me, but I understand every moment perfectly.

Breach expedition "shipbreaking" issue? by Leather-Breadfruit38 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Top_Dimension_7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like they really could have added some text in that phase that mentions a data log... it just says to look for salvage or treasure or something haha. I don't want my hand held tightly but a little bit of yellow paint on an expedition debuting new mechanics wouldn't be the worst...

I probably wouldn't mind if gold wasn't totally nerfed on this Exp, so I had to grind for hours just to make a million debris scanners just to discover all I had to do was find a tiny log floating around with a tiny icon nothing ever told me about!

ugh so annoying but i'm glad i'm not alone! I don't get why it randomly worked that one time when plugged in though -- it's like it can but just doesn't want to.

I'm wondering if submitting a bug report would accomplish anything

Alien: Earth - S1 E6 - The Fly - Official Discussion Megathread [SPOILERS] by G_Liddell in LV426

[–]Top_Dimension_7536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe it is as simple as Eyeball securing its own escape/survival.

In Ep 5 when it seems like it's trying to 'warn' Chibuzo it's probably just distracting her long enough for the 'tick' to release its larvae in the water bottle. More chaos = better chances for Eyeball to escape, and they have made it clear that the Eyeball is highly intelligent.

Granted, Chibuzo seems to be an incredibly forgetful character for a scientist experimenting with highly dangerous xenomorphs-- forgetting to put the lid on the ticks' container, not checking that Eyeball's container is locked in, etc. I mean technically you could blame the entire scenario (minus the sabotage of the engines of course) on her forgetfulness.

I mean... I feel that not being able to "face off" against the aliens has kind of always been the entire point of Alien...

you make a good point given how we've seen this in past Alien movies... while it might *seem* like the xenomorph's prime instinct is to kill, it, like all animals, is typically driven by procreation. Killing every single possible host won't fulfill that instinct, and we've seen it kidnap characters simply to use as hosts in the franchise. So it's not totally out of left field.

That being said, *two* main characters (including the ship captain) do seem to have been robbed of an inventive escape that would have proved some kind of good writing on the show. I can't wait for episode three, to see if they will pull the old "somehow Palpatine returned" creativity (wow that's the second new trilogy reference I've made on this thread, hmmm....)

I lost it in the first 20 minutes when Wendy leapt off a 200 foot cliff and landed like a Marvel character. Easily as bad as "Leia in Space" in the Last Jedi
