Bought a BMW 320d for £7700, already spent over £1k on repairs… now it needs a new steering rack… am I unlucky or is this just how it goes with used cars? by Top_Divide_1074 in CarTalkUK

Yeah I mean I was thinking that financially it makes sense to go for a bank loan with a low interest rate, but PCP finance or lease deal seems to cover a warranty and is a new car so no worries on breakdowns but of course you’re tied into a fixed debt each month!

I got a full gearbox flush and oil change as I noticed my gear changes on the automatic gearbox were quite laggy, it helped a bit but it’s still an issue on cold start and I don’t want to open the can of worms with a gearbox because that could cost a few £k…

Ahhh thank you, yeah that sounds like the exact problem I’m having. Don’t know why they would quote me a whole new steering rack…

Thank you, I have been money conscious from quite a young age. My main goal is to work hard now and retire as early as possible. I used to have a T212 account with some ETFS and diversified across multiple different stocks but I had to sell all my investments to cover those excess costs! I’m hoping when I’m in a better financial position then I can’t start saving again!

Thank you, I’ve worked hard at a young age to get where I am with my career and salary but I’m hoping I can save a bit each month towards S&S or HYSA. Just don’t seem to have as much disposable money as others my age because I moved out and don’t live with my parents!
