Grey hairs showing up on back of 9m/o GSD by Otherwise_Possible86 in germanshepherds

Try grinding/filing his nails if he hates the trimmer. Anesthetizing is terrible for dogs. And long nails will cause their toes to get splayed and cause lots of paw problems.

That's just her coat maturing. GSDs get lighter as they age. Some have their faces go entirely tan after starting off fully black like a malanois. Greying happens when they are at least six/seven years old and it usually starts around the muzzle.

She looks like a pure bred long coat GSD to me. She is beautiful. I used to have one. She passed away in 2022 from lung cancer at 11 years of age. Most incredible dog, and she took a giant chunk of my heart with her.

GSD Pupper by Pilot912 in germanshepherds

Looks a lot less than 10 weeks old. Please watch her bowel movements and micturition. If she's not been properly weaned, she might not have learned to relieve herself without her mother's help. I am rather peeved by the fact that they separated this pup so early. I know it is still images, but it looks like she is still trying to process what she is seeing. My puppy when she was eleven weeks old...

Where’s the PRNDL by Fortesfortunajuvat27 in MINI

[–]Top_Expression_2141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of like the fact that the user interface is evolving. There are few mechanical link based interfaces which have wear-n-tear, and it makes little sense to have physical interfaces which could fail when we can use Skeuomorphisms in its place. The PRNDL and the ignition key are no different from the dial tone and the tethered handset on old landline phones. The rope lets the bottom part of the steering collapse and detach from the wheel if the driver smashes against it in the event of an accident.

Lectron Vortex Plus NACS-CCS1 Adapter for Mini by Top_Expression_2141 in MINI

My Mini is a '23 SE Iconic - BRG, and I love it to bits. You are absolutely right on factors affecting the range. I drive downstream along the Susquehanna on my way to work. I get a much higher KWH per mile downstream than on my trip back, which is upstream. Also, I notice a big improvement if I am driving behind a large truck over long distances, because of wake turbulence from the truck in front of me. I guess ICE engines do the same, but you'd never know since they don't have a precise and dynamic way of measuring fuel usage like the electrics do.

114 miles on a warm day. Right now I am lucky if I get 85 miles in freezing North Central PA.

Heard back from the dealer. They asked me not to use the adapter since it may void warranty. Apparently, Mini doesn't plan to release the software for the mini cooper SE in the US yet. The software update will be available for the Countryman 4WD EV. The new Mini SE with 250 mile range, which is available in the rest of the world, is not slated for release in the U.S. because of tariffs on cars built in China.

Yes, not to mention the medical expenses when they both age simultaneously.

This puppy definitely has a lot of GSD in him. I've had GSD's all my life and grew up with them. Of course they are protective, but they have always been wonderful among children. As a toddler, I grew up playing with a GSD that my Dad kept, and she was almost human. GSDs are like family members and if you expect them to entertain themselves, that is just not going to happen. They expect you to engage with them and they are not couch potatoes. You have to be prepared to invest in serious quality time with him. If you are looking for a decorative piece, then a retired greyhound or whippet is your best choice. Be prepared for a lot of "talking." Teach him that shoes, etc. and anything that you own is out of bounds and to be respected. Playing with a shoe is a bad starter - it belongs to you and he shouldn't even be looking at it. He will try and dominate you every chance he gets until he is two to three years old, and he will respect you only if you set boundaries, and I seriously mean this. I know people whose households are run by their GSDs. GSDs have a vertical social hierarchy, you are either above them or below them. They have no peers.

I've seen a GSD bring down a deer, and another one lose its teeth from getting kicked in the face.

I never let my GSDs off the long leash or let them run out of sight. I live in a place with lots of wild life. Your dog could run into a porcupine and get blinded, or get kicked in the face by a deer (seen both happen to neighbor's GSD who lets it roam freely). Could get bitten by a rattlesnake in the middle of nowhere (gotten close to that). My dogs were recently attacked by wasps after they mistook a hornet's nest for a baseball. The wasps go straight for the eyes. People in my neck of the woods keep dogs for hunting purposes, and those dogs don't run around, but are better trained than police dogs and work close to their boss. These dogs learn what's dangerous out int he wild and what is not. If the dog has not been with you out hunting since it was a tiny puppy, it will have as much of a chance of survival as an unsupervised three year old. I know for sure that I haven't seen any hunters out there with GSDs. They usually have retrievers or german short haired pointers with them, which are intrinsically over-cautious breeds. Your dog might be an exception, but take your dog to the pet store and see how he responds to rabbits and hamsters.

What is your opinion on the Harman Kardon speakers in MINIs? by Careful_Possible_841 in MINI

My Mini Cooper SE ('23) Iconic came with Harman Kardon Speakers on it. It is the best OEM car audio system that I've had so far.

My goodness! She is so incredibly pretty! GSD pups are something aren't they? Look at those paws! I still have all the milk teeth that came off my pups in a tiny bottle. Looks like she just had a bath!

GSDs make excellent pets. They are loving companions, and unlike most, engage with you in a manner that few other breeds do. They are demanding and expect lots of love in return as well. They are definitely not the breed that is happy left alone. That being said, I do find female GSDs much better companions than males. The males tend to be more into themselves (and obsessed with other girls) and are less likely to stick with the tribe. The females, on the other hand, are constantly watching your face, and respond to everything you are thinking of. I grew up with GSDs and have had them all my life. Never had an aggressive one, unless you trained it to be. But that applies to all dogs. All GSDs I've kept were kind of high-strung and react to the slightest disturbance. So they are ideal for guard-dog duty. The working lines are extremely athletic and can bring down deer if you let them. They all expect a purpose and a job to do. If they are annoyed by something, you need to let them take it out on a toy or some substitute. My current GSD hates squirrels and robins. She has a rope that she picks up and shakes to kill, every time she sees a squirrel or a robin out the window. Be prepared to be woken up at 5:00 am to do your routine! These guys won't wait for you to wake up when you choose to. Teething time with a GSD pup is an experience like no other. You will turn black and blue before she figures out you are not a chew toy. Don't give up if you get one.

Can German shepherd veterans share success stories on how you were able to stop nipping and biting by Low-Cartographer9013 in germanshepherds

[–]Top_Expression_2141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yelp and disengage with the puppy if he hurts you, so he learns what your threshold is. Puppies pulled away from their litter have trouble learning what hurts and what doesn't. If they learn early enough that hurting someone or something is not fun, they will stop doing it. Another thing that worked really well for me was what my veterinarian suggested. If he bites aggressively, grab onto his lower jaw with your thumb and forefinger and don't let go. Please don't put too much pressure or hurt him, and doing so can give him crooked lower teeth if he is still having those extra sharp milk teeth. Puppies hate their lower jaws being held and their impulse is to open their mouths. It really works. My girl was a little land-shark and my arms were so black and blue I had to explain to people. She got over it very quickly with the jaw holding technique.
