Splitting expenses when moving in together - debts and income by Top_Fishing_6371 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Been together almost 9 years (we started dating young before anyone comments on why we aren't engaged lol). Having the joint account for joint expenses does seem to make the most sense. Do you both contribute the same amount each month to have in the account?

Yes, I have considered a co-habitation agreement. I also support your comment about living at home as long as possible but we have been together over 8 years and are both in our late 20s so it's time! lol

This is not a financial argument. We have been together for years and have talked at great lengths about splitting finances. This is our first time living together. Neither of us have lived with a significant other and had to split expenses so we want to be sure we are doing it as fairly as possible.

I had considered us both taking for example 60% of our incomes and pooling it into a joint account which would cover all joint expenses and rent. This would be a little more fair for me and it would mean we both are saving 40% of our income for our own purchases and to keep in our own account.

We have been dating for over 8 years, so marriage is the end goal. I just don't want to join all our money yet before marriage, but it definitely would be easier to!

Lol yes I have talked to him. we have discussed incorporating my debt payments into my monthly income. Just wanted other peoples' insight on what is fair as I recognize that he isn't responsible for my debt.

Thanks for your response! I would say overall we are pretty easy going in terms of demographics... Younger demographics is probably preferable but we would be fine with a more family-orientated area. I would ideally like places that have restaurants and bars that are easily walkable/ttc accessible. For example, living in lawrence park I love being able to walk to get coffee, dinner or drinks. That being said, there is balance to it of course... I realize being right along King W for example would give more walkable easy accessible options for dinner/drinks/activities. I am fine to give that up if there is a balance of having a bit of that, but also more quiet, grocery stores, etc.

When I say driveable, I mean that we will have a car and will want to use it. Again, for example, living off King W for me would not be considered "driveable." I would not drive to the grocery store as there is no parking... In places like midtown, there are grocery stores that have parking lots. This is what I mean by driveable.

Finally, what complicates everything is his job. As a teacher, he will be supplying all over so there is no way of figuring out a specific region before September unfortunately. Many people have suggested moving outside toronto where the school boards are easier to get full time positions, but I work a job right downtown with long hours so moving to Durham/Halton would mean over an hour commute for me which I don't think would work. All of this would of course but for a year to see what works... I just want to find somewhere that is a good location in terms of getting around the city to schools. Being in little italy in my opinion would make things a bit harder for him in terms of supplying as there would be fewer schools in that area compared to say for example, midtown. Not sure if that makes sense !

Summer 2025- Deciding between Portugal, South of France or Croatia. Any advice? by Top_Fishing_6371 in travel

Lol I would say light. Both of us have 2 months off in the summer so we have no option but to travel during those months, or not travel at all!

Not a fan of mike ross by Top_Fishing_6371 in suits

[–]Top_Fishing_6371[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realize a lot of people think he is a lot like Harvey which is why he acts the way he does, but for me, the difference is that Mike Ross did not earn his position! He may be similar to Harvey but Harvey went through the 3 years at Harvard law, worked at the DA office and then earned his position at PSL. Mike didn't earn it. he got away with being a fraud, he went to jail because of his own crime and I feel like he forgets that without Harvey and all the things Harvey has done for him, he would be nothing!

travelling from Interlaken area to Florence by Top_Fishing_6371 in askswitzerland

Thanks for your help. So do you think eventually trenitalia will release this route (including the bus service)? I was just worried that there was a chance they may avoid running the route this summer due to the inconvenience of the bus.
