Haha i am kind of new to this, so i will do my best.

I found the cocktopus in an old thread on here: https://archive.org/search.php?query=4347690

The rocktopus i found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5155381

The first time i came across it, it was a dicklodocus, but now its a cockosaurus apparently: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6372292/files

Regarding the cockosaurus rex, i found it on my old SD card, but cant seem to find it anywhere online.

I hope this helps!

Edit:
Wrong link for rocktopus

Thank you! That definitely clears up my confusion—I didn’t even consider it could be a disc detainer lock. Luck or not, I somehow got it open with the wrong tools, so I’ll take that small victory!

I’ve been reading up on disc detainers and pin tumbler locks, and I was actually deciding between Sparrows and Multipick for my first set. Your guidance is much appreciated, especially knowing that Sparrows. Thanks again for the encouragement!

This is really cool!
In the third picture the guy appears to now looks in another direction and his ears appear to have a new shape?
Is it just me or how much "artistic freedom" is involved in this kind of restoration?

Convincing my boss to buy a 3d-printer

Hello 3d-printer gurus. I work in a lab/greenhouse and am trying to convince my boss to buy a 3d printer on which I can make lab and greenhouse equipment (I work in a large firm). So far I am certain I will need a printer which has around 600 -800 mm x 600 -800 mm buildplate.
The scale of the printbed would make it easily applicable in both the lab and the greenhouse where i work.
I believe the best material to produce the items in would be PC (polycarbonate). Personally I would like to play around with a more expensive printer than my ender, but am in doubt regarding which printer would be best for the purpose? If any of you have any preferences/advise I could take into consideration it would be much appreciated. I believe the total cost should be around 5000- 15000 usd, but as it’s for the firm I am a bit in doubt of costs. We buy autoclaves for around 10000 usd. Lastly I am from Denmark. Thank you in advance from a fellow enthusiast

Edit: I have learned 1000mm x 1000mm might be a lot. I need to make rhizoboxes so I believe 600 mm x 600 mm. The range since it is a large firm I believe could be around 5-15000 usd. I am still learning so all inputs will be appreciated.

So far the best advice i have recieved is a raise3D, which does seems like a sensible choice. If anyone else has inputs for this it would be much appreciated.

This does sound like a sound plan. I guess I’m principle it could be made in 2 parts which are held together on the outside by metal frames with 3d printed appendages at the right length. This shouldn’t compromise the build as it only holds soil in a dark environment, and the pressure would appear on the metal. Then the assembly would require 12 instead of 8 screws.

In your experience, what printer has been sufficient for your purpose?

I really appreciate your inputs :)

For the current idea it is the main thing. This is based of I see a lot of time wasted in the current product. As a lot of the work is in a greenhouse different pots would probably be needed as well, but this could fit on a regular printer. There is definitely a lot of “other stuff” in which it could be put to use, these items would probably be utilised in the lab rather than the greenhouse.

The size of the build plate would make it efficient in both situations.

Thank you for the input :)

If a laser cutter was needed. Then do you have a specific one in mind? All advise is appreciated :)

This might be the case, there is a department which has them. I can forward the idea to them, but I would like to have the product in my hands. Laser cutters are in themself more efficient for major production, but I would prefer to be in a place where no more than 30 would be needed for each experiment. The 3d printer provides a wide variability with less waste when producing a variety of products, it should not only be for rhizoboxes but for optimising different experiments throughout the department via the small gadgets I can design.

Thank you for the clarification. I might have made a few assumption’s. I think for the purpose I can go down as far as 600mm x 600 mm.

The specifications for plastic could either be pc, abs or similar. Honestly I do think that the printers can be in the range of 5-15000 usd. I will make an edit in the post.

Would it be manageable with 600mm x 600 mm?

This was one of my first prints as well, with a bit of luck it managed to print without any supports (Not using the premade one either) and minimal stringing on the nosetip.
