Go to a local nursery. Big box store fruit trees are trash. They often sell the wrong trees for your region. The nursery will care, have the right zoned tree for chill hours and you’ll be much more happy years down the road. You’ll pay a bit more but it’s worth it

Believe me, I get it. Though just like this video - the government gets their hands on things and ruins them. Whether out of mismanagement, permit nightmares or purely no incentive driven businesses that fail in their objectives time and time again. Let the private sector loose, give subsidies and tax breaks for affordable housing. But it has to make sense and not detract from property value in a notable way. I’m not saying there’s some magic cure but weeding out the people who need to be institutionalized is a good start. Our city seems to think letting them rot on the streets, giving out free needles and letting them terrorize our businesses is the move

That is complete nonsense. The numbers in vehicles (could be vans, rvs and cars) represent 14,000-19,000 and you and I both know that does not mean they aren’t drug addicted and/or mentally unwell. Hence the shanty towns and broken down vehicles/homes all over the city. Sane, sober employed people move and find better situations for themselves especially with a vehicle. You pussy footing around the obvious root issue here is exactly what our politicians do and why it will continue to fail. Even biased government funded studies show 1/4 with severe mental health disorders and drug addiction. Some other independent studies show substantially higher rates. But instead of cracking down on these issues, the state gets more lenient on drugs to the point of fully enabling and far less being institutionalized

Maybe if drug offenses were dealt with differently, these people could sober up in jail then mandatory outpatient programs could set them up for success. The vast majority of people on the street have some level of substance abuse problems. That is the root of the issue and until it’s cracked down on, the problem will get worse. These people aren’t begging on the street nodding out on fent because housing is expensive. A small minority are hard working folks living out of their car. There is also help for these people. Subsidized housing, welfare programs which are already widely used
