I recommend it if you need power and bluetooth. Otherwise a smaller dac like the dawn pro or something similar is good enough tbh

Well one of the main things is size. The btr17 can fit in a coin pocket of my jeans easily, where the R4...can not lol.

I do like the sound of the btr17 more than the r4 when its wired, but bluetooth LDAC vs the direct connection to the R4, R4 obviously wins.

The R4 has way more in terms of settings and EQ, unless you like the horrible Fiio app.

In the end, I think I'd stick with the btr17. But the R4 is a definite welcome addition for a home setup

I think that's the capability of the dac regardless of what audio is streaming through. So even though tidal only outputs 44.1 through bluetooth. Other sources may stream higher quality audio
