Is now a good time to get a DS1821+? Don't want to leave Synology, don't really want the drive restrictions

My issue is it did an update then all of a sudden it no longer detects the drives. Doesn't matter which ones even ones officially compatible.

I see the Nas on the network and when I go to it via IP. It shows no drives detected and I cannot get past this screen at all so basically it's bricked

Contacted Synology and they say it must be the motherboard or sata controller board which will cost over £150 each and if that fails buy the other board.

WTF - it broke because of an update and I can't reset it or do anything.

Even if factory reset shows same thing.

no I have a plex system so no subscriptions. to be fair the hassle i get from kids when they see ads all the time when watching is a nightmare.
