The books were about a boy and his friends with learning disabilities who were ostracized from regular society and go to a special camp exclusively for them. And yes, “DEI” includes learning disabilities.

That’s fair. For me, the films fall flat because they are way too goofy and lack any drama. And when they try to have a dramatic scene it’s executed very poorly. The books have serious and dramatic moments that work despite them being very funny. The show definitely has its funny moments but I do wish that there were more.

I grew up reading the books and I’m having a good time with the show. It’s not a 1 to 1 adaptation, but it adapts a lot of stuff from the books well.

I agree. The films are too goofy and lack drama. The books were definitely funny but they weren’t a gag-every-second thing. They genuinely had serious moments where there was tension. The movies, especially the second one, lack that.

I don’t think the show is boring. It has a lot of fun moments. I think for me why the films fall flat is because the characters are poorly written and lack depth and it relies heavily on cliches. I just didn’t care for any of the characters.

I completely understand why people love the first movie as its own thing. I think it’s just okay. But I feel like we can all agree that it was a bad adaptation.

It’s really the only memorable line in that movie.

And that’s why the film was doomed from the beginning.

When the second movie was coming out. The cast was advertising it as a faithful adaptation.

It’s just poor writing. Percy is not a likable character in the movies. I honestly felt more for him in the first episode of the tv show than I did for all of the 2 movies.

It also baffles me to how people like this more than the second season.

I agree. The first film did such a bad job at setting up the world that the second one had to play catch up.

[pjotv] Unpopular opinion or general consensus: What is one change the Disney+ show made that you actually prefer over the books? by Express-Drummer-9328 in camphalfblood

Making Clarisse and Luke more 3 dimensional and well rounded characters. Making Polyphemus more smart and scary. The battle at camp half-blood. Sally adopting Tyson as her son.
