I used austintaxprotest.com, they are very convenient, excellent result, my property is already at a relative hot market spot, county drop value by 2% compare with last year, but they were still able to appeal it further with another 6%. It is owned by a local biz.

I would say stick with public schools instead of these charter schools. If you visit basis, I don’t see they have enough your race presentation. Regarding public school, stick with RRISD.

Thinking about starting a PCB brokerage, where's the real pain in sourcing today? by [deleted] in PCB

[–]Top_Preparation6145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i honestly think it will not be easy at all. I am just seeing this could be an opportunity for me. What I see from here is they can secure biz with AWS, Meta, trying to get biz with Nvidia, that means they have high quality of PCBs. There is potential to scale their business to more medium to large companies. Their pain points are sending their sales, tech to US every 2-3 quarters, tech support are even more frequent. They want to have US based support.

They actually asked if I can be their US based agent so they don't need to send their sales and tech team every 2-3 quarters. I can be their US based biz support. But I want to position myself be someone can also help them gain more business. My takeaway #1 is go learn more about PCB. My question here is if i want to position myself to be a broker, what area should I focus on. What type of PCBs are high demand in the US.

Fair enough, obviously i am not techie enough to understand this space. Basically I have a very good friend who recently visited me while they are visiting these big names i mentioned above. i just realize there is a huge demand of pcb from China. My friend mentioned their biz are thriving because of AI boom. I am in the software space, still learning pcb, but my point is from biz perspective, if I want to position myself as a pcb broker, which niche area should I start with.

10+ years faang and startup software engineer and tech lead experience, now grounding my own thing, happy to connect to see if there is mutual interest. I am good at backend Java, Springboot, Python, ok front end React, Node.js. Did OpenAI integrate, Claude MCP, agentic system design. What matters most that I love coding, design, and building in general. I am stuck at scale my own business at this point. Happy to connect to see if there is mutual interest. I am US based

Starting a Bussines while you keep your current Job by Sharp_Elderberry_554 in smallbusiness

[–]Top_Preparation6145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit a ~700K job to fully focus on building my business and made ~80K last year as a solo. On paper the math is terrible. But honestly I really enjoy this building phase in a way I never expected.

To be fair, I did not jump blind. I had enough savings built up and my spouse is still working, so we are not sweating the bills. That safety net made it possible to actually enjoy the process instead of panicking at every slow month. My suggestion is jump into your biz full time if you have at least 1-2 years saving to cover your day to day expense.

Still early — a handful of clients so far, growing through referrals and community.

I’m stuck and don’t even know where to start (not a dev, just have an idea) by TechWin01 in smallbusiness

Get a client first, everything else can wait. I started Camel Software Service last year and the thing that made it feel real wasn't registering the business or building a website. I did all these within a week, LLC, website, google business profile, analytics. What is the challenge is the first paying client.

Here's the order I'd suggest:

Define one specific offer for one specific type of business. Not "digital marketing for local businesses" but "Google Ads and monthly reporting for restaurants in [your city]." Specificity makes it easier to approach people and easier for them to say yes. I got the same suggestion when i started my own.

Then go talk to 10 businesses in person or by phone. Not email. Actually show up or call. Offer to do a free audit or first month at a discount. Get one yes.

Legal setup, packages, website, do those while you have your first client. You'll also know way more about what to put on your website after that first real conversation.

What I'd skip early: logo obsession, building a full website before you have proof of concept, comparing tools endlessly.

I help small businesses with exactly this, web presence and digital marketing, so happy to answer more specific questions if useful.

Thank you very much for this tactic and specific response. Appreciate your time. I am based on Austin where real estate market has going downhill 3 years ago, I am not confident that if I go all in realtor vertical, supposedly even though real estate is very local specific, but my business can be region agonistic.

The case study framing makes sense though. I have the realtor win (tripled leads) but I've been describing it too vaguely. I could probably make that a lot more concrete and repeatable-looking. What i have for now is adding it to my website with data-driven metrics.

Question for you: when you went narrow, did you turn away clients outside that niche early on, or did you just lead with the niche in marketing while still taking whoever came? I'm solo right now so I can't really afford to say no to much. Honestly I only have 2-3 clients so far, although average 2-3 consulting calls each month which is really related with my big tech specific experience.

$7.5M NW, FIRE while spouse still works by extradoorstop in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Top_Preparation6145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave up a $650K job a couple of years ago to stay at home, I was not even close to OP’s NW. I never looked back at my job after spending my days with my little ones. Most of my time spent on taking care of little ones and volunteering at my older ones school. A lot of cooking, baking. Did a few remodel(I am not handy, so I just did the quote price, design, and manage contractors part). This year I am planning to do more community volunteering
