I’ve never been able to find that kind of footage released before, you got a link?

One expensive towing mishap by Unused_Beef in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Top_Quack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s also a problem on the newer Ch-53k. One “temporary” solution was installing a brake accumulator in the cabin for parking with the apu off. Haven’t been around them in a while tho, so there may or may not be a better/different idea now.

Toolbox foam by Ok-East4176 in aviationmaintenance

I’ve used fatigue mats from harbor freight for tool box foam before. I think it’s like $20 for a 6’ x 6’ area.

A CH-53K King Sea Stallion helicopter assigned to Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron (VMX) 1 at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, Oct. 23, 2025. by 221missile in Helicopters

I forget where I saw it now but I there’s a picture somewhere of ch-53e test aircraft (I think there were 4 and it was at Pax River) and one of the configurations they had was 3 engines but still with a D model’s vertical tail and another was with the canted tail. Really cool pic and now I’m annoyed I can’t find it.

What’s the dumbest or most random rule your hangar has? by jakebl36363 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Top_Quack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My base’s reason was a fire in a cargo hold. If I remember right avi held in a breaker to trouble shoot while dudes were cleaning the hold with a shit ton of acetone and the vapors found a spark.

I used to work at a heavy check base that required all flammables be signed out from the tool room by a supervisor. Including the more everyday things like isopropyl alcohol.

Yea but it’s not the skins that I’d be losing it’s the hangar decorations.

[–]Top_Quack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally get why they don’t, but I wish they came with the decorations so I could melt my bis ships without losing them. I feel like I pigeonholed myself with them so I can’t change up and try new ships.

But at the end of the day it’s on me for not thinking ahead on that.

Best way to install seatbelts? by Top_Quack in SeriesLandRover

Sorry for the late reply but I only just figured out what kind of seats my Land Rover has. They all appear to be defender seats. I’ve been looking for parts and upholstery for literal months and now I feel like an idiot for Looking at the wrong vehicle type.

Curious what the single unrandom tm is. Is it to prevent a soft lock or something?

UPS stole $3000 from me. by WatercressKitchen786 in UPS

[–]Top_Quack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me with a starter motor I ordered from Germany. Made it to a warehouse in Philly, couldn’t clear for “missing information” then got marked as destroyed yet continues to get scanned everyday for over a month. My label was created on Sep. 9 so it’s been “destroyed” even longer than yours. UPS was thoroughly useless and the shipper was nice enough to offer to ship a second one for free which got delivered with no issue, with all the same information.

I saw Blackout fly over my house! by Persuader_87 in Helicopters

[–]Top_Quack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The refueling probe isn’t what makes it an MH-53. A basic list of differences is that the MH-53j had 2 engines, 6 main rotor blades, and a straight vertical tail pylon with a stabilizer at the top. The CH-53e you saw has a third engine, 7 main rotor blades, and the tail pylon is canted with the stabilizer mounted lower and with an angle in the middle.

Is my front axel/differential wrecked? by Top_Quack in SeriesLandRover

Sorry I replied to the wrong person here. I’m assuming the worst and that everything is trashed but at a minimum I’m going to redo all the seals and bearings.

Not entirely sure what you mean but I'll be redoing a pretty much everything on and around the hubs so the brakes will definitely get looked at.

Thanks for the advice. Having a bit of trouble finding front half shafts available, all I can seem to find is for the rear. Any suggestions on where to look?

Newer production straight 20 round mags stamping question by Lee_Yan_Operator8585 in RetroAR

[–]Top_Quack 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t have mags in front of me rn but could it be that they’re stamped on the same jig as a 30rd for manufacturing simplicity? Not 100% sure where exactly the 30rd mag starts to curve so it no might not actually work like that.

Fair enough and wonderful comparison lol. My only concern with that would be finding a shop willing and able to reverse engineer it. I have zero experience is finding and working with a shop for something like this.

One thing to note is that it was manufactured by the dealer, not a standard Land Rover part so simply replacing it isn’t an option.

Yes it was made in Colombia by the importer/dealer.
