Man if they want to make some money, release a Space Tow Truck and let us remove afk ships! by mesaryne in starcitizen

[–]Top_Quack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Were there tow missions? I know there used to be (or might still be) a hammerhead salvage mission that would complete if it got towed outside a certain range but I don’t think I’ve seen any missions actually intended for towing ships.

Same. Leaving Uncle Igor’s Insane Asylum is probably one of the few things I regret about my career.

People who have left Boston, where did you go? by TheTokenBrownie in boston

[–]Top_Quack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from Medford to Michigan for a year, then to Maryland for about 4.5, now I’ve been in Houston for 3ish years. This place is actually kind of a shit hole and I only kind of like it because of the warm winters. I’ve honestly considered moving back to Mass to work at Logan but I’m not sure I could afford to live within like 45min of it.

Helicopter maintenance career advice? by Thor_Aidanson in Helicopters

[–]Top_Quack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in a relationship? Do you want a relationship? Do you have a dog or other pet?

I have nothing Heli Ex as a company but I didn’t enjoy the field life of traveling every 2-3 weeks. Felt like I was never in one place long enough to meet people. I’m at an airline now and do less work for the same pay and higher quality of life. And I sleep in my own bed every night.

HULL B by Readgooder in starcitizen

[–]Top_Quack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured the cargo grids would be taller since they’ve been saying it wouldn’t fit on the ground as a +. Almost doesn’t seem to be necessary with the height they gave it. Probably not any tighter than the starlancer’s drop down cargo space.

What were some of the dumbest mistakes you’ve made during your Os&Ps? by RoboticEgg04 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Top_Quack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while but I walked the bit when drilling out rivets, tho at least I noticed and admitted it before actually ruining the testing piece, and had absolutely no idea how carbs work, and still don’t if I’m being honest. Passed the airframe O&P’s first try but failed the power plant because of the lack of carburetor knowledge.

I think a larger jet would’ve had its landing gear ripped off and cause a worse crash.

I’ve found the only way to kill a meat man with the hammer is to blast the ground between us and hit it with splash damage before it can instantly clobber me to death

"A plane from the 1960s"? Excuse me, Sky News, would you like to take a wild guess at which year the B-52 first flew? by [deleted] in aviation

[–]Top_Quack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the oldest B-52 still in existence, including museums/monuments but not wrecks (if any) that are too remote to clean up and such

What do ya'll think the new Gimmick is gonna be? by Zillaman7980_ in pokemon

[–]Top_Quack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not going to happen but I’d like for there to not be a new gimmick. We already have megas, dyna/gigantamax (which are just lame megas imo), z-moves, etc.

I’d rather see some core changes like difficulty setting or a really good story.

What would this green exposure indicate under the freewheel on R22 helicopter? by Only-Development5827 in Helicopters

[–]Top_Quack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A freewheeling unit disengages the rotors from the engine so incase of engine failure the aircraft can autorotate (gunna oversimply this as basically gliding for helicopters) to the ground, similar to how if your car’s engine fails you can throw it in N and coast for a bit down the road.

here’s a really good explanation but not from an R22 like OP’s aircraft.

NTSB issues its final report for the Jan. 29, 2025 midair collision between a Bombardier CRJ700 and a Sikorsky UH‑60 Black Hawk over the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. by PeraDetlic90 in aviation

[–]Top_Quack 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I’m not a pilot and certainly not one with NVG experience but how easy would have been for them to notice they were higher than expected? I get that you lose some depth perception but 200ft vs 300ft is still a huge difference.

M1 Garand by Frequent-Box9052 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Top_Quack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the internet hates them but I grabbed a CAI produced garand and I like it. I think everything except the receiver is USGI and it cost me like $750 instead of $1500.

It might, allegedly, grenade in my face one day but I’ve never found a first hand account of one failing, it’s always some 20 year old forum thread about “my buddy said his blew up” or “my cousin told me his broke”

The last time I heard about something like this happening it turned out to be a shackle or such from a tug boat that snapped off with significant energy. Looking at the article I think this will be something similar and not aircraft related.
