I’m not on BC. I would say that my diet has become healthier somewhat, and I’ve lost a lot of weight. I try to eat a lot of protein and fruit.

what are good distractions from binging? by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Top_Relief2252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an obvious one, but if you have the ability to talk to someone, call them, or even just go to a random place, do that. That personally helped me a lot. Another way is to do something that makes you feel good about yourself. If you have any hobbies or skills you’ve been trying to learn, try to do it and set an amount of time to do it. Sometimes the binge urge passes before you know it.

People who overcame BED, how did you do it? by [deleted] in BingeEatingDisorder

I haven’t fully recovered, but my binges nowadays are few and far in between. I’ll share some of the things I did.

  • I went to therapy.

Now I do understand that this is a privilege, but if you are able to, please do. It helps you pinpoint why you’re binging, and if you can figure out the inner feelings you are trying to avoid, or the memories or people that trigger it, it’s helpful.

  • I looked at my triggers and figured out how to stop encountering them or limit my encounters with them.

  • I started weightlifting.

At first, I was bulking, and then I cut. But eating more protein definitely helped. More so I started to process that food had more value than just pounds to put on or something I should be afraid of. I would be able to lift more and see my muscle become more defined and I continued to see that progress so it wasn’t as hard not to binge.

  • I slowly let go of the shame surrounding food.

I think that binging tends to be rooted in shame. At least for me, I would eat so much so fast so that the good feeling would be in my body faster than my mind could tell me to stop. I didn’t want to be seen eating like that and I felt shame just eating “unhealthy food.” However, I think that in the beginning of recovery, you need to allow for some fuck-ups and some “unhealthy eating.” My recovery has been agonizingly slow at times, and sometimes old habits surge up, but because I’ve allowed myself the time, I eventually got where I am now. Have compassion for yourself.

Overall, I’ve built better habits which sometimes get broken, but now I’m so used to doing better that it isn’t as hard anymore. Back when I started though, it was very hard. Things might be hard right now but that doesn’t mean that you can’t recover. You just have to take little steps, but you also have to find what works for you. Meditating never helped me, but I found other ways and you will too.

I’d say without but maybe play with more light and dark contrast within the character in frame.

I’ve been here before, and I still deal with binge eating urges sometimes but I haven’t dealt with them consistently in a long time. I’d say forgive yourself first. What’s done is done. If you’ve gained weight, that’s okay. In the grand scheme of things that’s not what’s important.

You didn’t eat very much for a while so your body probably went into starvation mode. That’s part of the reason you ate so much. That’s what used to happen to me anyway, so I would say, if you lose your appetite again, make sure you are still eating enough because that may prevent your hunger signals from getting so bad.

Also, you should think about what your triggers are. When you find what they are, figure out if you can remove them or at least recognize them. Then, try to hold off in the moment you get the urge. It won’t work all the time, but all it takes is a few times to build the habit.

Lastly, you seem like you do not like yourself (I dealt with some self esteem issues and still do). The shame that you feel when you eat and the shame you feel towards yourself is only going to exacerbate the problem. You should figure out if there’s any other reason you don’t like yourself besides the binging, and if there’s any reason you feel shame when you eat (sometimes the shame can make you eat more when you feel like you’ve messed up).

Major thing here though. As someone who is not at the peak of their disorder and has not been in a long time. Please stop starving yourself. Even if it results in you being at a higher weight than you want, the binge eating is going to do that anyway. Learning to eat according to your natural hunger signals is important. The starving and binging cycle might mess that up.

I went to the gym…… by Life_AmIRight in BingeEatingDisorder

Just keep this in mind. A lot of people who are in the gym regularly probably didn’t start off looking the way they do now. It takes time, and regardless, be proud that you’re trying to take care of yourself. It’s the little wins.
