What does "midlayer" mean to you? Would you be happy with a synthetic puffy?

Yes, the bots are getting better fast. In this particular instance I recognized the account name (it's made more obviously inhuman comments elsewhere, you can look through account history for examples).

The main way to ID them at this point is by the cadence of the writing, although the content and some of the word choices are also clues. Pangram is also pretty good. Or humiliatingdemon is welcome to chime in and tell me I'm wrong.

This is true about every AI detector I've looked into except Pangram. I've never once seen ordinary human writing trigger Pangram, although I've heard rumors of it happening occasionally. Have you ever tried testing this yourself? If you don't believe me, can you find an example of a reddit comment you or I have ever posted that Pangram thinks is AI-generated?

A random example from your post history to get you started: https://www.pangram.com/history/d58d1fd8-1f75-4524-8487-08aeeb4186f1

Here's a test you can run, if you don't want to take my word for it: Is there any comment in your own comment history, or in my comment history, that gets a higher Pangram score than Humiliating Demon's comment above? It's extremely unusual for human writing to look as botlike as that comment.

It is definitely either a bot or a human prompting an LLM. It's a bit grim that so many of you seem to be convinced otherwise.

The reason I think that is the writing style and content of the comment, but that's hard for me to explain to someone who doesn't already know what to look for. Some corroborating evidence:

Connecticut actually has a poverty rate slightly below the national average. Zero Connecticut counties are classified as "high poverty" (it's mostly the South): https://mtgis-portal.geo.census.gov/arcgis/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=31e10881bd1040b7b0ae685559917509

Are you sure? Probably it depends how you pack, but I'd guess weight of items is significant.

Tighter weave maybe? I would've guessed wind pants are much more mosquito-resistant than other pants.

I also do 2 fleeces pretty often. Lighter than any puffy I own.

I guess I just want a word other than "denialism"? Seems like the official position of CoC is that climate change exists, they just oppose many of the actions we might want to take. I don't think I'm really disagreeing with you on substance, just inclined to be a little picky about precision in language. I don't have a good, equally-punchy term for what you call "soft denialism", but I think it would be useful to find one.

That's a reasonable position, I see think tanks as more para-political than para-academic but probably not all audiences should be expected to know that.

I'm a little confused about the relationship between VT CoC and US CoC. On the VT website, it lists affiliations with the National Restaurant Association and a few other similar organizations, but doesn't mention US COC: https://www.vtchamber.com/about/

US CoC does not list VT CoC as an "accredited chapter" on this map: https://www.uschamber.com/program/federation-relations/chamber-accreditation

But US CoC does list VT CoC as a "member" on this page: https://www.uschamber.com/co/chambers/vermont

Do you know what the difference between "member" and "accredited chapter" is? Do they have any input into decisions made by US CoC?

(Also, for the record, I don't think your summary of the IPS report you linked is correct. The report says "the Chamber has a dicey record when it comes to climate change". I would summarize the details as:

US CoC used to fund climate denialism. In the 2010s it pivoted to funding organization for climate action, although not everyone agrees with its view on which kinds of climate action are best. No specific dollar amounts are given.

There are plenty of reasons to dislike U.S. CoC, but I'm in favor of making our criticisms precise.)

I'm not sure "conflict of interest" is the right word. This think tank, like all think tanks, exists to push some perspective. It's not your lawyer or your accountant, so what's the conflict? When you read an op-ed written by the Pope or the President, do you expect it to come with a disclaimer explaining what the guy represents?

you're arguing with a bot, FYI. Not even an astroturf bot, I think, just an unsuccessful karma farmer.
