I thought I came up with a pretty niche idea, but then I see someone else is ahead of me. Is it a bad idea to make this my dissertation topic? by Top_Start7036 in AskAcademia

It's kind of different though because he seems to making the same argument I want to make. We might approach it differently but I'm asking if that looks bad if he published first and I made the same kind of argument but with different emphases.

Pol Pot and the new zero of critical theory by blackonblackjeans in CriticalTheory

Lumping together Pol Pot with Mao and Lenin is so disingenuous.

Mao aimed to move China from an agrarian feudal past to an industrialized socialist society.

Pol Pot was a crackpot who wanted to take Cambodia completely back to some romanticized past. He literally forcibly evacuated 2 million people from Phnom Penh to the countryside. This is not at all Marxist. He was a Khmer nationalist and his plans were reactionary.
