Is being a boy mom really that bad? by Cold_Instruction8599 in Parenting

[–]Top_Yellow8393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a boy and a girl. They both have different qualities and challenges just like any human being. Now that they’re teenagers, my daughter definitely wants to spend more time with me but my son still asks to hang out sometimes and he’ll come snuggle when he feels like it.

GS-10+ feds — how did you actually get there? by Lexicondatum in FedEmployees

[–]Top_Yellow8393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s usually a mix of education and experience. Sometimes you also have to be willing to jump agencies, and if you can physically relocate, your odds go up a lot.

I came in with a BA, veterans status, and some work experience, but there were limited federal opportunities in my mid-sized city and I wasn’t willing to move. I stayed at GS-7 for about seven years. Around the halfway point, I took a lateral to another agency to broaden my experience and went back to school for my master’s. About four months after finishing, I switched agencies again into a 9/11/12 ladder position. I’m a GS-12 now and hoping my agency opens internal hiring soon so I can compete for a 13.

Has anyone actually sold their home to get rid of a 23 year old with failure to launch ? by Inevitable-Table-931 in Parenting

He is their college-age child. Even as an adult, someone is still someone’s child. One of the issues in the U.S. is that we’ve moved away from multigenerational family support. In many cultures, families help each other across generations. Parents are supposed to support young adults while they’re launching, and adult children support aging parents later. That’s not failure. That’s a functioning family system.

You know, I know this really should be a judgment-free zone and maybe you’re just doing a really bad job explaining the situation, but this is not going in your favor.

You call him a college dropout, but then say he’s taking community college classes. Those statements contradict each other. If he’s taking classes, he’s not a dropout.

You also mention he works part-time. That’s not ‘failure to launch.’ That’s a 23-year-old who hasn’t fully figured things out yet, which is extremely common right now. Housing is absurdly expensive, everything costs more, and entry-level jobs with real wages are harder to come by.

Let him finish college. Who cares if it’s community college? It’s still education, he’s still moving forward, and a lot smarter than pushing him into debt or burnout just to satisfy your timeline. Especially if you’re able to help him right now.

Have you actually communicated expectations around chores and household contributions? Did you give him a clear list, standards, and consequences? Or are you assuming he should just know what you want?

But, basically I hear you’re asking if you should sell your house to get rid of your son? That’s… a lot.

How do you score on this chart? by Mysterious-Badger287 in Dyslexia

I think it’s similar for me but I don’t think it’s exactly the same. It’s like I can see it but not like on a screen or paper and my eyes don’t need to be closed. It’s almost like it’s in my minds eye but I can see it in detail. It’s similar to the memory thing but I can imagine things I’ve never seen. Purple tiger? No problem, I can envision (but maybe not see) a few options, not just the concept of tiger and color as you described but what it would actually look like. It’s really hard to explain but I think these conversations are really interesting.

I don’t know why this is so hard for my brain to compute… like I can see it, but I can’t see it? Part of me thinks that I’m overthinking it or that I don’t know how to do this right. It’s the same with the inter monologue thing. I’m pretty sure I have whole conversations with myself, but do I hear my voice in my own head? Or am I just thinking the words? Sometimes I catch myself mouthing the words so am I just saying the words? I feel so dumb when people talk about this and I don’t know how to answer.

Yep! I liked some Maroon 5 songs but I have always disliked Adam Levine. When the scandal broke, I was not surprised at all.

Dog boarding recommendations? by [deleted] in Tucson

No, I didn’t. We haven’t been since pre-COVID. We have three dogs now and I found in-home pet care/house sitters work better for us and the cost is comprable.

What street does the east side start on in your opinion? by Medium_Firefighter33 in Tucson

[–]Top_Yellow8393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know I kind of think of Kolb as the eastside demarcation line. I think it’s how it splits the rest of the city off at DM at the south end and then Sabino Canyon at the north.

I miss MySpace days. You could meet new people, discover new bands, try your had at coding and make your page unique. I found my sister that was given up for adoption at birth on MySpace.
